I think its worth it! Its about 299 square feet so thats about an extra 100 square feet over a standard D1 balcony room and of course the balcony is bigger as well. There is a walk in closet which offers more than enough storage space for a 10 day cruise. In addition you will get priority embarkation at your embarkation port and you will get 2 cruise credits for the crown and anchor society instead of just 1. I think its worth it and here are some pictures of a JS on the Navigator of the Seas, your's will be a bit different but probably in general the same thing:

Oh and I forgot to mention that you get a bath tub instead of a shower stall in the bathroom.

[/quote]$800 extra to move from a balcony to a JS? I don't think it is worth it. I would counter offer with $500 and see if Royal Caribbean accepts your counter offer.

I have negotiated a better price twice in retail stores in the US by making an offer that was different than the posted offer. If Royal Caribbean wants your cabin bad enough, Royal Caribbean will negotiate with you. You never know until you try.

I book it wednesday for a total of $800.00, I told my TA to do it. today I got a phone call
telling me that they want now $1800.00 more from A CAT D1 to a junior suite. of course I said no.
I could go on another cruise for $1800.00. It doesn't seem right to me

I don't understand, you confirmed the upgrade with your TA one day, and the next day your TA calls you and asks for more money?!? If it really costs more money your TA should have called you that same day. It almost sounds like your TA forgot to upgrade you when you initially called and by the time he/she called it was too late. Sounds like poor service.

I have never been offered an upgrade. Nonetheless, what makes you think you cannot make a counter offer. Royal Caribbean can accept your counter offer, reject it or make another offer (if Royal Caribbean offers an upgrade for $800, I could offer $500, Royal Caribbean could counter with $700). It all depends on why they are offering the upgrade in the first place. Do they have a cabin to fill or do they need your cabin for some reason?

Looks like Earl M got the reverse side of this. Royal Caribbean raised its price on him. Why would you believe that Royal Caribbean can bargain with you, yet you cannot bargain with Royal Caribbean.

Cruizer, I think PH is talking about the real reality of RCCL bargaining.......it just doesn't happen.

You just might be surprised. I have seen post from people who have done this. I have never been offered an upgrade, so I haven't had the opportunity to try yet.

Cruizer, I'm not following you on this bargaining for an upgrade. If you are lucky enough to be offered an upgrade it would be done at no extra charge, so I don't understand the bargaining comment. Upgrades on RCI are almost no existant now.

They'll tell you to pound salt if you call up and ask for a change of cabin to a higher category at a rate lower than the going price. Travel agents can no longer sell cruises at a lower price than the published one. You can get a lower price for an upgrade at the pier, but those rates are set.

each from a balcony to a junior suite." The word offer made it sound like it came from Royal Caribbean. If it was just someone the OP noticed on a website I would expect the OP to say, "I have a chance to move up from a balcony to a JS ..."

I agree, technically upgrades are free. Up-sells are offered for an additional amount. But many people don't concern themselves with the semantics and just say that they were offered an upgrade for a certain amount. Granted, the OP didn't use either word, so in that regard I assumed that since the OP said it was an offer, that the offer came from Royal Caribbean. In any case, moving from a balcony to a JS is an upgrade, whether you paid extra for it or not. And that is how I am using the word upgrade, to mean a better cabin.

Maybe I use the wrong word. I wasn't offer anything from RCI. I am going on the group cruise here next year.
I called up the TA to ask for a price to go from Cat. D to a junior suite. The TA told me $800.00 more
if I wanted to move up. . 2 days later I called back and said yes, book it.
The following day I got a phone call telling me that RCI wants $1800.00 more instead for a junior suite,
I asked why the different in price when you quoted me $ 800.00 . SHe that RCI took back their block of tickets
form them and I had to pay the going price of $1800.00 because there was a big demand for the junior suites.
so of course I said no. I thought they were asking way too much.

Earl M, I understood what you were saying. I just didn't understand how the conversation went from you pricing a higher category cabin to one where bargaining for upgrades was suggested.
