Just back from 12/17 Spirit; several things different

Just got back from the Spirit 12/17 sailing & noticed several things different on this cruise.

First of all, it was much easier at embarkation. I had pre-registered & was in my cabin within an hour of landing at the airport. That was a great surprise.

Secondly, for those of you for whom smoking/non smoking is an issue; many more areas both indoor & out were non smoking. No smoking signs were posted in all the lounges except for one one adjacent to the casino. There were also no smoking signs in the area of the domed pool. There were three areas for smokers, the casino, the fan tail pool & the smaller pool on Lido deck forward. I'm wondering if Carnival smoking policy will change on all ships since the Paradise will no longer be smoke free. I'm a smoker, but these changes didn't really bother me. When I wanted to smoke I just went to an area where it was acceptable. AND these changes should make the non smokers happy. Gives them lots of smoke free space all over the ship.

Last & best was their new debarkation policy. Any U. S. citizen with proper identification & who were able to carry their own luggage were allowed to debark first. Debarkation started at approximately 7:45 & was by far the most painless debarkation I've ever experienced. The cruise director said this was only the second time they had tried this on the Spirit. Sure would be wonderful if all the ships started doing this.

Yes, I do agree getting on the ship was fast. After we went thru security check we were escorted to the elevator (did not have to wait on line, as we also pre registered on computer and had a stroller with us,,,great to use when on the islands for our packages and put a tired child in it...even tho he does not use one at home anymore)
and were up in the room within minutes.
Service on the Spirit did not change since I went on it in 2001, but the food did. I found out there was another chef on board and I could tell the difference. In 2001 everything we were served was delicious, but not now, food had no taste or it was much too salty.
Towels in our cabin were very rough and some of them were worn out so badly there were holes in them...(I think CCL could afford to buy new ones) Room service was great but the dish that was to be used for the cereal was dirty. When I picked up the bowl there was crust of old cereal on bottom, and glass in room has juice spots in it.
Also make sure you check your sign and sale card when you make purchases. I was charged 12.93 for taking out 40.00 in the casino. It should have been 1.20 - 3%. After going down to correct it in the casino 3x's they finally corrected it and gave me a tee shirt (big deal,,,if I did not check it out I would have been out of luck) and in the photo shop I purchase photo's gave him a 15% cpn He forgot to take it off and charged me full price. When I told him he said he voided it and charged me the correct price. Later that day I checked my folio on tv and say the 25.99 was still on my card plus the correct amt of 10.99.....If I did not check that out I would have been overpaying again....They corrected that one too.
All in all the rest of the cruise was nice service excellent by cabin stewart, our waiter, diningroom hostess.....Shows were very nice too.
Getting off the ship was very easy too......no problem....same with getting our luggage.
I love to go to the piano bar but everytime I went there there was no one there...
Can hardly wait to go on the Imagination in March.....I know their piano bar is always packed with fun.
Enjoy you cruise on Spirit Annie.....Just watch those charges.
