Hello Charles.
Welcome Home! Hope you had a great time!
I'm sailing on the Caribbean Princess at the end of the month & we have three quick questions.
#1 is from my 7 year old...is there a ice cream/frozen yogurt machine near the pool? (Last year we sailed on RCCL Explorer of the Sea, they had one & it was big hit to fill your own sugar cone!)
#2. How much was the soda card?
#3. Are the blow-dryers in the cabins the typical little white hotel style ones that hang on the wall with hardly any power?
Feel free to add any comments of your own, good or bad.
Thanks for your time, it's much appreciated!!!

tncurlyq,

Scoops is an ice cream bar located between the front elevators and Neptune's Reef (deck 15 midship). This is forward of the Calypso Pool where they show movies under the stars from noon to late night. They charge for ice cream here. (There is free ice cream in Horizon Court (the buffet on deck 15 forward) between 3:30 and 4:30 daily. Since this is not advertised, you need to go looking for it.

#2. How much was the soda card?
The soda card was $4.25 per day. (You'll need to purchase this on embarkation day, or the next day.)

#3. Are the blow-dryers in the cabins the typical little white hotel style ones that hang on the wall with hardly any power?
Yes, in the stateroom by the desk. (I just asked my wife about this. She keeps her hair fairly short. She said the dryer was fine.)

Conniemc:

Did they upgrade to pillowtop mattresses yet?
The bedding is new, but not pillowtop. I'd recommend asking your steward for an egg crate mattress top.

Is CP an old or new ship?
Caribbean Princess (aka CB) is 4 years old. She is scheduled for dry dock in January to add some features that exist on the newest Princess ships, and for some rehab.

Hi Charles!
I have another question for you.
As part of my exercise routine, I walk daily. Do you happen to know what the distance around the jogging track is?
Thanks!

If I remember correctly, 9.some times around the jogging track is 1 mile. 2.9 times around the promenade deck for 1 mile.

Hi Charles,

I have two questions for you:

1. Disembarking - does Caribbean Princess give you the option of carrying off your own luggage?

2. Internet - I have a laptop that is wireless ready and was wondering what the charges are to connect to the internet on the CP.

We're leaving this Saturday on the CP. Did you have a good time? Did you have Traditional Dining or the Anytime Dining? I guess I have more than 2 questions ...:)

Hi Tyle,

Yes, you can walk off with all of your luggage. That was about 7:30.

Connect charges in the computer center were 75 cents a minute. The following packages were also available:

100 minutes for $55
150 minutes for $75
250 minutes for $100

There is a $3.95 set up fee charged for your first use.

Platinum/Elite members get 150 minutes free. Passengers in suites get free internet.

I believe wireless is available only in the atrium, and in the Internet Cafe.

Connection speeds are SLOW and sometimes not available at all due to satellite coverage.

Good time - so so (too many people, not enough space. They added 1,000+ people compared to Grand and Star, and didn't add additional public space.)

Anytime dining for the first time. We'd rather have traditional.

Enjoy your cruise!

Thank you Charles,

Info on computer rates was very helpful.

I am traveling with my 13 yo niece and 19 yo nephew ... so Anytime dining might be good for us ... I don't know but I guess we will find out.

This is the first time we are on the CP .. I have traveled on the Golden P and Star P ... which I enjoyed. I guess you have to get to the theater real early to get a seat on the CP ... well, I guess it will be an experience :)

One last question ( I think .. :)), did you enjoy one port more than the rest? and which port would you not like to go to again.

Thanks again,

Tyle,

As you know, Princess changed the itinerary due to engine/generator problems. We did Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Thomas, and Bermuda. The stop in each port was shortened due to the engine problems. In general, there was not enough time in each port---except for Grand Turk. Each port has something to offer. So, we enjoyed each of them. Personally, I would have enjoyed longer stays in St. Thomas and Bermuda.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

Thanks for the reply back on the jogging track info!
Two more questions, Is there a kiddie pool?
Also, in your reply message to "Tyle" you mentioned engine problems, do you happen to know if all is well now?
Thanks again, it's appreciated!

TNCURLY,

FYI - You can find all the deck layouts, all the information you need at the Princess.com website. Have you explored their website yet?

TN,

Kiddie Pool--my DW says yes.

Engine Problems--yes they continue. That is why the itinerary has been changed. The problem will not be fixed until the CB goes into dry dock in January. They have to replace an engine/generator which requires a large hole to be made on the side of the ship.

Thanks Connie for reminding TN about the deck layouts available at princess.com

Interesting about the engine problems. We sailed on the CB for the third time in May. One afternoon we lost power for a while. After that there was severe vibration in the aft. The shudder was so bad at times waiters were looking out the windows. Our first 2 cruises on her were uneventful but I knew on the 3rd one something was very different. Our cruise in May was still wonderful, I just noticed there was in differenence in the "feel" of our sailing.

Ain't THAT the truth? It saddens me, these mass market charges and structure. The "feel" of a cruise has changed drastically in the last decade. For me, it may be the end. All the things I loved about cruising are going away and being replaced by mega-mall mentality sales and ridiculous rules. Of course, the fact that manners and class have become a lost art the last couple generations, contributes to the problem by people jumping off ships, falling off drunk, etc. It's just sad. Cruising was once heaven on earth.

Whimsy,

I was quite surprised by the vibration in the Palm Dining Room, and in the motion of the ship that was particularly noticeable there.

Connie,

Cruising sure has changed since my first time in 1995. And not for the better imo

On our first two cruises on CB we sailed in cabin E731 which was all the way aft. Some vibration but more of a lull. This past may we were in B731 so we weren't as far back and was a few more floors up. Wasn't as noticable in the cabin but the lampshades shook in Club Fusion and it was really noticable in the aft dining room. On another cruise board some got very defensive when I mentioned this. You would think they own the ship and built it themselves they way they defended it. Now that it is having obvious problems I know I wasn't imagining this.

Still a nice ship and I would sail on it again if the opportunity arose.

I didn't cruise when they didn't nickel and dime so I know no other way. I still enjoy cruising though and would hate to give it up. Although with the rising cost we may not be able to go every year like we have started.
