We tip the Chief Housekeeper? Who is that? Why didn't we tip this person on the Monarch? Of course, we'll tip this person, just wondering who/what???

i beleive the chief housekeeper is the person who oversees all the room stewards --- dont flame me but if i dont see them i dont tip them --they have to perform a direct service to me in order to get tipped-
the d/r steward gets tipped but the chef doesnt

Hi, GloBug...lougee1043 is correct...I just did Infinity to Alaska (8/8-8/15/04) and we chose to use the envelopes provided to hand out our tips in person. There were instructions to give the "chief house-
keeper" envelope to our steward. I agree with lougee1043...we never saw this person...but I must admit
that I did tip him or her.
You chose a great ship for Alaska...do you have a balcony? Food was fabulous...shows were great,
too...the Celebrity Singers/Dancers were, IMO, Broadway quality...of course, this WAS my first cruise
ever...but I feel it will be hard to top the experience I had. Alaska was beautiful...

If we don't see you we don't tip you. We had a nonexistant head waiter once and all he got was a handshake. We gave his money to the waiter as he was wonderful. I've asked around and that seems to be the way most do it.

MPL, I thought it was mandatory to have a balcony to Alaska, and after having one on our first cruise, I dont' think we would want to cruise without one! We have room 8181, aft balcony on the corner. One of the ones with the balcony that sticks way out! Woo! I can't wait!

Celebrity has put that "Chief" guy into the tip mix for as long as I've cruised. Wasn't quite too sure what he did until we had a room screw up. Then we tipped him :)

On Horizon to Bermuda in July, the cruise director in his talk explained the tips do not go to the "chief housekeeper" as a person. They are pooled for all the behind the scenes people. I.E. the bus boys, people polishing the glass & brass, vacuuming the public areas etc. This is Celebrity policy, don't know if it is the same on all lines. Seemed pretty reasonable to me for all the "unsung heros" who make the cruise a great experience (and I've found to be some of the friendliest people on the ship). Cheers!
