Just got off Norwegian Dawn

This was my first cruise, and I went with my fiance on 10-12-03 and disembarked on 10-19-03. It was breath taking. I have never had a vacation like this before, and I am already thinking about the next one. Once I can find more info, I want to go in November of 2004 on the 11 day New York to Southern Carribean on the Norwegian Dawn. If anyone knows about this trip, please tell me about it! Are all cruises like the ones on the Dawn? Do most of them have balconies? (We had an ocean view with private balcony - room 9710.) I think maybe I've been spoiled with this cruise, and I'm worried that if I book a different ship with a different itinerary, it won't be anything like the one on the Dawn, seeing how it's Norwegian's newest ship, and it is gorgeous! The shore excursions were excellent, first we went to Wet 'N' Wild in Orlando, then when we went to Miami, we went to Parrot Jungle Island. And the last one was the best one, in Nassau, we had a dolphin encounter which was truely an experience to remember. We got in the water with them and hugged and kissed them and danced with them. The Bahamas were a dream come true. I've never been out of the U.S.A., let alone a beautiful island. So you can imagine how depressed I was to have to come back to Rhode Island. Anyway, it was the best time of my life. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who wants to respond. And if you're thinking about booking a cruise on the Dawn, and have never been on it before, take it from me. Get a room with a balcony. You won't regret it!

Balconies do tend to spoil you, don't they? The newer ships offer a greater percentage of balcony cabins and the cost differential has come down somewhat because of that. You will also find that a great many people still cruise very happily with an inside cabin which is the most economical (not like travelling in steerage - same opportunities as the balcony folks :) ). Personally, I think it's an individual's decision based on the itinerary, style of cruising, and of course economics. Would I give up a balcony to afford a cruise? You bet! Would I choose a balcony if I could? You bet!

And yes, the Dawn is a beautiful ship. Good luck on your November plans. I don't think they start that itinerary until January, so be watching the boards then.

I'm very happy to hear you had such a nice time. I'll be going on the Dawn in March and it's always nice to hear something positive about the ship.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, but being its winter the first 2 days and the last 2 days will probably be cold weather. I have been on 25 cruises and I am taking the dawn next sunday with my daughter and 3 grandhildren. In Febuary is when my husband and I cruise to get away from the bad weather. I do not know where you are from but we are from NY. Last year we flew to hawaii and did a 10 day cruise. This coming feb. we are going out of san juan on 2 cruises. first carnival and then rccl. All the new ships are pretty much the same. You really won't go wrong with almost any cruise line. I usually do not take a balcony because we feel we only sleep in the room. This time we will have 2 adjoinging rooms with balconies as we are 5 people and they do not have a large enough room. Some ships do. We have been on carnival with 5 in a room and last year another ncl that held 5 people. Just thing about the weather. Last year or I should say this past feb. we came home after ny had 2 feet of snow.

sounds like you had a great time did the dawn 9/14/03 and enjoy my second cruise (first was on the carnival triumph also out of nyc) i was perfectly happy with room with just window although it would be nice to have balcony if you have the money but i found that you were really not in the room that much even on sea days but what matters is that you had a good time on the cruise that is what counts

I also sailed the Dawn 9/14 and have booked the 2/5/04 also.
As to answer it being winter the first two days, I have heard from the crew that we leave on Thursday at 4pm and by noon on Friday we will be past Cape Hatteras with warm weather. I, too, have been spoiled by a balcony but the cost on the 2/5 cruise was not within by budget and besides they were already booked, which made it easier not to be too upset.
I will be watching the boards to see what the cruisers on the early winter cruises are saying about the seas and the weather.

Hi
I'm also curious about the Dolphin Encounter. My husband has been having a problem with circulation and can't walk long distances. Is there much walking involved to get to the Dolphin Encounter ? Thanks, Linda

I am bocked to go away on the dawn from 3/14/04-3/21/04. If you have the chance i have questions to ask. I'm 25 and going with my boyfriend and another couple, Fisst:
1.Are there alot of children on the ship.
2. Are the drinks expensive.
3. Are the shore excursions expensive.
4. Night time, Boring or things to do?
5. How big are the bathrooms and showers?
6.Did you check out the gym?

Any info would be cool, thanks.
