Just Returned -- Constellation

A quick note to say the Eastern Caribbean on Constellation was INCREDIBLE. The ship is gorgeous, our room (7120 -- midship with verandah) was perfect, the food was fine, and the entire week vastly exceeded our expectations. We had a GREAT dinner at Ocean Liners (only one night because we had our teenaged kids with us -- in a separate but closeby cabin) and dinner was the only chance we had to see them! Please feel free to email me if anyone has specific questions, but I did want to post a positive review to anyone who's looking for suggestions on a cruise line or ship. I can't imagine that anyone does it better than Constellation.

Ruth,

Did your cruise stop at Casa de Campo? If so, please post your excursions if any and your impressions. I've read some unfavorable things about this port, but then again it's been my experience that people normally only post complaints.

Thanks,

Henry

Just booked Constellation for 1/02/2005 in a 1A Penthouse deck! I cannot wait! It will be our first time on X. I have heard so many good things about this ship, it was a toss up between Golden Princess & Constellation.

I haven't been on the Golden Princess, but based on my experience on the smaller, but newer Coral Princess compared to Celebrity's Millenium class ships like the Connie...there's not contest. The new Celebrity ships win hands down over Princess...not even close. ONLY plusses for Princess I noted were more entertainment options (eg. comedian performing in a different lounge at the same time as the production shows) and if you're into doing your own laundry Princess has that option, while Celebrity doesn't.

Hi Henry -- We did stop at Casa de Campo, and I wasn't impressed. It was our least favorite port. Most of the Constellation cruises with this itinerary stop at St. Lucia instead of the DR, and that would have been far preferable to us. We took the ship's complimentary shuttle to Altos de Chavon, which is just a pretty shoppng center designed by Oscar de la Renta overlooking the pretty (but very muddy!) Chavon River. Frankly, we're not shoppers, and there wasn't anything to see in this part of DR that isn't purely tourist marketing. Some people we spoke to played golf at the famous Teeth of the Dog course at the C de C resort (US$200+) and said they enjoyed it. So we came back to the ship early and played there, which was great fun. Since it's the first port, there's still lots of onboard exploring to do, and it's such a beautiful ship, it was no hardship to stay onboard. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Ruth,
We are sailing on the Constellation on May 22 to Northern Europe and Russia for 14 days. We have sailed on the Infinity. I understand that the ship is identical to the Constellation. If that's the case it should be a great cruise. Celebrity really does a great job. Thanks for your input.

Booked the Connie for Jan. '05 south caribbean. My wife and I are 1st-timers and are looking forwad to this trip. How much was the soda sticker for the week? What do mixed drinks cost onboard? What did you do in Grenada? Thanks.

Hi there....I'm new to this great board! We're booked on the "Connie" for the July 3rd Baltic trip and would love to hear from others - either if you're booked on the same date or if you have advice/comments on port tours/self-tours! Thanks!
