Hi Henry -- We did stop at Casa de Campo, and I wasn't impressed.  It was our least favorite port.  Most of the Constellation cruises with this itinerary stop at St. Lucia instead of the DR, and that would have been far preferable to us.  We took the ship's complimentary shuttle to Altos de Chavon, which is just a pretty shoppng center designed by Oscar de la Renta overlooking the pretty (but very muddy!) Chavon River.  Frankly, we're not shoppers, and there wasn't anything to see in this part of DR that isn't purely tourist marketing.  Some people we spoke to played golf at the famous Teeth of the Dog course at the C de C resort  (US$200+) and said they enjoyed it. So we came back to the ship early and played there, which was great fun.  Since it's the first port, there's still lots of onboard exploring to do, and it's such a beautiful ship, it was no hardship to stay onboard. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.
