Just returned from the Wind 2/14

Just returned from February 14, 2004 Norwegian Wind cruise to the Western Caribbean.
Overall, my husband and I had a great time.
The entire staff was friendly and smiling except for occasional exceptions and the ship was very clean.
My husband discovered he had forgotten to pack any pants! Only shorts. Even though they tell you no shorts in the restaurants, we went anyway and no one said anything. (Felt a little uncomfortable though). After making several phone calls, the ship’s tailor generously lent my husband tuxedo pants for the entire week AT NO CHARGE!
We had very good service everywhere we went.
We’re not drinkers but we found plenty to do. The casino was very good to my husband early on (slots) which kept us in the black for cash the entire week. I think we actually came out a little ahead (and we gambled every day).
Entertainment was terrific all week. I noticed on other cruises, the first production show was good but the rest of the week was so-so. Every show was great! There were 3 production shows with singing and dancing and other entertainers. We did not miss one show! Arrive early to get a good seat.
Cayman Islands: We went to Stingray City (incredible!) and snorkeled at a reef. We did not do this through the ship but someone was holding a sign when we got off the ship. We found out later this was Native Way Watersports.
At Belize, we took the Lamanai & New River Safari through the ship. The weather was colder than we expected. I wished I had brought a warmer jacket or poncho. Thank goodness it didn’t rain! We had a wonderful guide who was funny and knowledgeable. It was a pretty long trip to get to the river but he kept us entertained.
We could have skipped Roatan. Unless you have an excursion from the ship planned, stay on the ship. I’m sure a few years of tourism dollars, things there will improve.
One night at 11 p.m., there was a “Chocoholic Extravaganza.†A must see (and eat).
We just walked around and shopped in Cozumel and had lunch at Pancho’s Barnyard.
The food was constant! Maybe not as good as other lines but we could always find something we liked.

Thank You for the postive review. we sail away on the WIND march 6th

Do you know if WIND serves coke or Pepsi?

Formal nites - one or two nites? Were most people dressed very formally?

Did you check out the fitness centre? Any fitness classes?

Thank You!

I was on the Wind earlier this month, and loved the ship.
The ports are wonderful. I see alot of commits about Roatan and how people find it is dirty and poor. Yes it is, but you really have to over look it and leave the port area to see the real beauty of this Island, I hired a private tour guide, Victor Bodden and he was wonderful and took us all over the island. It was only 25.00 pp and worth it. You will need to do the same thing for Belize, again I hired a private driver to take us around the city and then out to the country side, he only charged us 50.00 pp and was with us for the whole day. His name is Joseph Zaldivar.

My husband and I are budget-minded, so we had ice tea or water with meals (free). They charge for coke or pepsi plus a service charge. Don't know if which they have (coke or pepsi). We brought extra diet cokes to drink in our cabin. We kept them cold in the fridge.

Formal dressing was an option. On one night, one restaurant was reserved for formal only. Remember, this is freestyle dining and lots of options.

We didn't use the fitness center. We walked for 30 minutes every morning on deck 7 which is used for walking and jogging. We did participate in an aerobics class. There were other classes (not very many).

I forgot to mention that we had no trouble with seating in the buffet or in the restaurants. We often sat with other people (which we preferred) in the buffet. We only had short waits in the restaurant. We were often seated with other diners in the restaurant also.

Tampadee....

You didn't have any problem carrying soda or other soft drinks on the ship? Do you know if it's "officially" a policy that they allow you to bring this on board?

Also...what catagory room did you have? You said you had a refridgerator....do you know if this was exclusive to your room or if ALL rooms have one?

I'm glad to hear you had a great time. I'll be on the Wind in just about 30 days!!! I can't wait.

Thanks for your help!

Jeff

The refrigertor may have been because of our cabin. There is ice put in all cabins daily. I never heard of an official policy concerning bringing your own soda. They are strict about bring booze, though. They will confiscate it if you try to smuggle it in.

We were on the 10th floor, CC (superior ocean view), #0004 at the front of the ship

i think the superior ocean views are the lowest category cabin with a refridgerator. i was hoping that you were in a regular ocean view. we booked a GTD "HH" but got upgraded to a cat D ocean view.

Tampadee,

how was your room? We are as well on the CC cat...cabin#0208. Is it big enough for 3 adults?

The room was great for the two of us but I don't know where you would put a third adult. There is a sitting area and a queen size bed. Go to bestcruise.com, follow the link for Norwegian and you will see what each cabin consists of.

We were on the 5th floor and did not have a refrigerator. We carried a case of Coke on and they didn't even give us a second look. We had a bottle of wine waiting for us in our stateroom. We threw cans of Coke in the bucket and our Cabin Steward kept our Coke on ice all week.

In Cozumel we bought a big bottle of Tequila to bring home with us. We were fully expecting them to hold it until the last night. We had it in a separate bag and sent it through the x-ray machine, then picked it up with our other bags and got to our stateroom with it before we realized that they hadn't said anything about it.

So glad to hear they didn't care about carrying on soda and water. I've also heard from several people that they didn't care in Cozumel if you carried liquor onboard. I wonder if it's because the cruise is almost over and it would be more hassle to take it from you and then have to return it the next evening?

The bottle of wine in the room is a great idea so you can keep the wine bucket! I'm going to order the Honeymoon / Romance Package that comes w/ Champagne in the room upon arrival ;)
