Just returned from February 14, 2004 Norwegian Wind cruise to the Western Caribbean.
Overall, my husband and I had a great time.
The entire staff was friendly and smiling except for occasional exceptions and the ship was very clean.
My husband discovered he had forgotten to pack any pants! Only shorts. Even though they tell you no shorts in the restaurants, we went anyway and no one said anything. (Felt a little uncomfortable though). After making several phone calls, the ship’s tailor generously lent my husband tuxedo pants for the entire week AT NO CHARGE!
We had very good service everywhere we went.
We’re not drinkers but we found plenty to do. The casino was very good to my husband early on (slots) which kept us in the black for cash the entire week. I think we actually came out a little ahead (and we gambled every day).
Entertainment was terrific all week. I noticed on other cruises, the first production show was good but the rest of the week was so-so. Every show was great! There were 3 production shows with singing and dancing and other entertainers. We did not miss one show! Arrive early to get a good seat.
Cayman Islands: We went to Stingray City (incredible!) and snorkeled at a reef. We did not do this through the ship but someone was holding a sign when we got off the ship. We found out later this was Native Way Watersports.
At Belize, we took the Lamanai & New River Safari through the ship. The weather was colder than we expected. I wished I had brought a warmer jacket or poncho. Thank goodness it didn’t rain! We had a wonderful guide who was funny and knowledgeable. It was a pretty long trip to get to the river but he kept us entertained.
We could have skipped Roatan. Unless you have an excursion from the ship planned, stay on the ship. I’m sure a few years of tourism dollars, things there will improve.
One night at 11 p.m., there was a “Chocoholic Extravaganza.†A must see (and eat).
We just walked around and shopped in Cozumel and had lunch at Pancho’s Barnyard.
The food was constant! Maybe not as good as other lines but we could always find something we liked.
