We walked. I didn't find it far at all. We do not do excursions in Key West. We have 3 kids (now 5, 8 and 9, but the last time we were in that port, they were only 3, 6 and 8). On our own, we walked from the pier to ernest hemmingway's home and did a tour of that with the kids; walked to the "90 Miles to Cuba" bouy and took some pics; walked to the lighthouse. We were only in port from early morning until 1:30 p.m., but we got to do quite a lot as you can see. On our way back to the ship, we "crawled down Duvall" and stopped at Sloppy Joe's and Hog's Breath. I would recommend at least "stopping in" at these 2 places. They're not only famous, but probably could be classified as legendary. I took my kids there when we last sailed into that port. The staff greeted us with open arms. My husband and I ordered a drink, and the bartender promptly put up a round of 7-Ups with cherries in them for the kids. They also started handing out all kinds of little trinket keepsakes to them. We also purchased some nice t-shirts in the gift shops of both places. Don't get me wrong, we didn't hang out in the bar. It was daytime, and many other families were also stopping in.
