Taking the Grand on the Western route, with a variety of children, we are thinking, Xcaret in Cozumel, but are stumped in Costa Maya & Grand Caymen with what to do? Is it best to not book excursions & wait & see what we want to do once we get off the ship? Is booking our excursions on our own advisable? We'd have to do this if we were not cruising...With 3 adults & 3 children it seems like our available options can vary day to day. Please help!

Though I've not done it, I've heard the stingray excursion in Grand Cayman is wonderful. I think you can do it snorkling or scuba (if certified). I know it is hard to arrange excursions that will please everyone. We generally travel with ages ranging from 13-89. We usually break off intio small groups according to interests and compare notes later.

I know lots of people don't book through the cruise line because it is usually cheaper not to, but I've been on ships were people got left behind because of bus breakdowns and such if they weren't booked with the ship. I've also been on ships that left port late because they were waiting for one of their delayed excursion groups. I suppose it depends on your sense of adventure.

Captain Bryan's or Captain Marvin's Stingray City tours are the best.

In Costa Maya, the Uvero Beach looks incredible. Would love to go there with my kids!
