Kids on cruises

After reading some of these threads, I felt I had to respond. Does anyone else feel like me? That I enjoy having children of all ages onboard with me! We have a 15 year old son and he went on his first cruise with us at Easter time 2005 on the 8 day Legend cruise. He had the time of his life and continued to correspond to new friends via e-mail and cell for quite a while. On our cruise there had to be 500-1000 kids on board and we NEVER once observed any problem or rudeness. I would much rather spend time on-board a cruisre with these children than see them just haning out at the Mall.
JUST MY OPINION!!!!!!!

Yes - I agree. Been on five cruises, four with lots of kids. I think the kids sometimes add to the cruise experience. I have never had any problems with the kids. On an Aug 2004 cruise on the Navigator there were 900 kids and zero problems with the kids.

I must disagree. Out of that many kids, some without without proper parental supervision and no effort by the cruise line to enforce proper limits, there is bound to be a group of impolite youngsters whose parents view the ship as a safe haven for them to roam around and do whatever they want. I've only been on one cruise but thats what I saw.

PD -

No one said there is never any problems with the kids, just that neither of us had experienced any problems.

I also have not had any problems with any adults. However, there are stories about adults that act like they are the only passenger on the ship, and everyone else is there to serve their every need. Between the two, I would rather have the problem kids. Nonetheless, I have not had any problems with anyone of any age - yet. Knock on virtual synthetic simulated wood.

I think the key to this discusion is respect. Whether it be children or adult's they need to respect each other and thier right's. For example why should kid's running around up and down the hall's screaming and yelling at 2-3-4 a.m. be tolerated, let alone be considered respectful of other right'ts to a peaceful night's sleep.Everyone paid the same fare give or take so why should the teenager's have the right to ruin some one else's vacation.I think that if the parent's can't or won't control thier children that the security guard's should.I have NO PROBLEM with children I have 3 of my own but to my knowledge they alway's behaved when they were with us on a cruise ship or in a hotel or anywhere else that there were other geust's. JMHO. Viet

I am getting ready to go on a cruise with my 7 year old grandson and I am looking forward to seeing his reaction to everything. As far as kids on cruises goes, well I have never seen anything out of line with them and this will be my 7th cruise. A few of the cruises, you would not have know that there were any kids on them because of things like Camp Carnival and the Adventure club. I was a little upset on my first cruise tjough because of a few snooty ladies complaning about the kids around the pool, it seems that they were in the pool splashing each other and getting some of these snooty ladies wet and got their hair wet. Well you know what I have to say to them, "If you don't want to get wet, don't sit by the SWIMMING pool." Kids are great and remember, You were a kid once."

Just returned from the Carnival Legend with hundreds of kids. Really nice to see all those families and extended families enjoying themselves as families. If kids get on your nerves, there`s always the top sun deck or the adults only pool. We were 3 cabins away from the kids` playroom and were never disturbed.

I purposefully book my cruises when most kiddies of all ages are in school. I love kids, but I also love my peace and quiet while on vacation.

I have been on cruises where the parents were nowhere to be seen, kids in the cabin late at night by themselves and making the most noise and banging on my wall, running in the hall, whooping and hollering.......now THAT's what really chafes me. I even spoke to the parents one day, and they assured me it wasn't THEIR kids. Hah. They had no clue what those precious darlings were doing while they were out and about till 2am.

I think cruising is a wonderful time for families, and it shows the kids another side of vacationing besides the theme parks...and how nice a formal dining room can be, if they aren't used to that type dining. It's all good. The only thing I ask is that parents be aware of where their little ones or teens are at all times. There's also the safety factor to think of, as well as distrubing other passengers.
