Hello!
This will be only our 2nd cruise, and 1st on Norwegian.
We have 2 boys-ages 5 and 8.
Can youtell me about their kids' programs?

How does the freestyle dining work?

THANKS!

NCL has one of the highest rated kids programs at sea, actually most lines have a pretty good one. I don't know specifically what you want to know about it. Regardless the kids should have a blast. Of course there are always a few who complain, but that is just human nature, not everyone can be happy about everything. Freestyle works very simply: you decide when you want to eat and where. If you do choose to dine in the main dining rooms between about 6:45 and 8pm you may have to wait a few minutes to be seated. We have done freestyle 6 or 7 times and only waited once, others will report differently. The busiest nights, of course, are the Lobster nights which will be the first night at sea and probably next to the last. There are 2 main dining rooms with no additional charge, Blue Lagoon diner and the buffet. I don't know if the Spirit has any other dining rooms with no charge. I would recommend you try at least one sur charge adventure. The kids, if they want to go will be charged 1/2 price if they order a specialty entree or nothing if they order from the kids menu. If they don't want to experience a long, formal dining evening they can go to the kids club and you can enjoy a romantic dinner.

If you have more questions let me know. I will try to answer them honestly and objectively. I am inclined to be very pro NCL...=docdance

I too am curious about the kids program. My DD would be 4 if we decide to go. How late are they open. Is there enough for them to be excited about going? I have debated the Disney line as their kids program is supposed to be so good, but we really like the Frestyle dining and DH likes casinos.

I have rarely heard of a kid that didn't love the program. With the introduction of 2.0 upgrades I think the kids club is open until 10pm or on some nights maybe later, but there is an extra charge for the really late hours.

One time I did read a review which the mom mentioned how unhappy she was with the kids program. She added her little boy loved every minute of it, but she didn't think it was challenging enough? Hello, since when do we take a vacation to have our little ones challenged?

Another time we were returning on a tender with a mommy and her 7 year old twin daughters. I asked them if they were having a good time? Mommy said the only part of the cruise they were enjoying was the kids club and they wanted to go there every waking in minute. I hope this helps you some...

Good to know. I wish they were open a bit later ( i think Disney's is till 1), but I say that, and every cruise I have een on, I am ready for bed early. LOL! So we probably would never do a late night out anyways.
