KINGS & QUEENS ROOM ON THE ROTTERDAM

Okay, me again!

I read somewhere that they put the suite passangers in the Rotterdam in the King's and Queen's Dining rooms in the La Fontaine Dining room. Is that true? It doesn't look as nice as some other areas of the La Fontaine Dining Room...

Thanks Again

Not for dinner, for breakfast, and sometimes for lunch. and yes it may look that way but you get Top Service in there.
Sometimes they will have a Group Dinner in the King or Queen's room but that is the only time that I have seen or been in it for Dinner.
We like to have coffee and fruit early in the morning on the verandah, and then go to the Queen's room a couple of hours latter for a real breakfast.
Just make sure when you go into the building to check in, that they know you are in a Suite, so they send you to the right line. That is the only Problem we have.

Oh, that answers the confusion we had about the King/Queens room.

Is the food better too during breakfast/lunch? or just the service.
Can anyone get into this room for breakfast/lunch, or do they ask to see your cabin key?
How are they going to know that we are in a suite or not?

Thanks for the tip on check in, we heard that before. We even heard that they board the handicap needing assistance and the Penthouse Suites first even before they board the rest of the suite passangers. Don't know if that is true, but what we read on some website.

We were on the Rotterdam last December in a suite, and we dined in the King's Room for breakfast and lunch. They ask you on the first day when you enter the room what your suite number is, and then after that, they never ask again. You get such wonderful service and are made to feel so special.

Sage,

Was the food different or special in the King's Room for breakfast and lunch?

Mark,

The food was not different, unless you consider them always having a chocolate crossiant waiting when others could not find one in the main dinning room. The service was the wonderful thing about the room. There was usually a table by the window available, and after the first morning, your cup of tea, or in my case, my crossiant was always waiting. The staff quickly learned your preferences and saw to your every whim. It was delightful.

There have been a number of occasions when they use the King's Room as additional seating for dinner. Table assignments are made in that room which abuts the starboard side of La Fontaine with a wide entryway . The entry is sometimes screened off if King's Room is not in use or if there is a private dinner. They only use King's Room for dinner if the ship is filled to capacity and they need the extra seating. We always sit at the same table on every cruise and it is located near the entry to King's Room so I can always see if it is in use or not. If you are not seated in that area of the dining room, you would not know that King's Room is being used for dinner.

The menu for breakfast/lunch is the same as Sage says....and the service is always wonderful. Also, to repeat what Sage said, the Stewards will ask for your cabin number the first time you come in and will recognize you when you return and never ask again. They know who is in a PS or S.

Persons in wheelchairs are always boarded first at embarkation and then PH and S board next. Always....

HAL has a realistic approach IMO to PS and S passengers and they realize that those who are paying sometimes as much as 5+ times more for their accomodation are buying more than just a larger room. We are paying for and are expecting "more for our money" and they provide just that. I don't think of these things as "free extras".....they are part of what we are buying. We want the extra comfort , service and convenience when we travel and we are willing to pay for it.

You will be spoiled....seeing as this is your first cruise and you will be in a PH, it will be hard for you to travel in lower the next time......and I am quite sure you will become @ddicted.

I gather from all your comments we will be spoiled. If this cruise works and I don't get seasick, our next cruise would most likely be to Copenhagen and Sweden.

But why is that Holland America doesn't tell what the Penthouse and S category get? Is it a real secret? You would think for that kind of money, they would have a beter marketing program if someone asks "What do I get for $........"?

The list is in every brochure that HAL publishes.

Look on page 55 of the April 2003 to December 2004 brochure.

This is SO true, and I do hope that you both have a great Cruise.

I only have the CANADA/NEW ENGLAND BROCHURE,
Maybe that is why I cannot find page 55?!
I gather that the full brochure has more information,
I will check as soon as I get a copy.
