The day before our cruise, we are thinking of staying at the La Quinta hotel off Cypress Creek Rd. & I-95. Has anyone stayed there before? It was recommended by our travel agent...but I wanted to hear from you guys.

Hi, we sailed Jan 25/04 and stayed the night before at La Quinta.
It is a standard hotel that was clean and comfortable. It also offered
a continental breakfast. The price was $78 Canadian which converts
to about $60 US. We felt it was well worth the price. We didn't want to
rush from the airport to the port and this gave us a chance to enjoy
another day of warm weather and go to port refreshed.
Hope this helps.

Frank,

Thank you very much for the information. Just a few more questions, if you don't mind? We're there stores, restaurants, etc. within walking distance, and did the hotel provide transportation from the airport & to the port?

Thanks again!

La Quinta does provide transportation from the airport and to the port and back to the airport....make sure you sign up when you arrive or you could be waiting. There is many stores, restaurants and malls in this area but not good to walk to....this is a very busy area.

Cypress Creek & I95 is quite a distance from the port, especially if there is a crash on 95 which happens more often than not. You could do just as well with a number of fine hotels on the 17th street causeway in Ft Lauderdale. Travel distance to port.........4 to 5 minutes.

If you have to save money, save money on the back end of the cruise, after its over.

Stay away from any hotel on SR 84. Trust me, I live in Ft. Lauderdale.

Thanks Ozzy! Since you live there...your advice is well taken. We've changed our plans. We are staying at the Wyndham Ft. Lauderdale Airport instead...plus we got an excellent deal.

Thanks again!

Ozzy,
We've got a reservation for one night at the Day's Inn at I-95 & Broward (I think). Our plane gets into FLL a little after 8:00 p.m. I've heard about some very bad experiences that some people have had there in the past. I also heard that the motel has been recently refurbished. Is it your recommendation to avoid that motel too? Your comments will really be appreciated. (I've got a bad feeling about the place myself, but my sunny, optimistic better half says.... how bad can it be for one short night?)

Bretdeb.
What is the rate that you were quoted that is a good deal? I just checked their website and their lowest rate was $152.00. We're paying under $60.00 at the Days Inn. I seriously would like to make a change, but don't know that it's worth a hundred $$$ or more for something better. Can't find anything anywhere else that's convenient for under $100.00 since I guess it's also Spring Break (March 11th).

Rick,

Actually got it through Priceline for $109 (probably could have gotten better), but felt for that price for that hotel...nice way to start my vacation.

I've heard too many negative things about that Days Inn. It's worth it to me to pay the extra $50 - $60 for a nice hotel.

$109 is too much to pay for the Airport Wyndham. We paid $50 for that hotel in Jan. For $80 you could have gotten the 4* Hyatt Pier 66. Check bidding for travel before placing a bid on Priceline. You can see what other people are bidding.
