Any one had a lainai cabin on Veendem. Says the glass is one way does it really work well. How noisy was it with runners and walkers out there. Just want the pros and cons?

Hey Maw, It looks like you are book on the Duck cruise. I know nothing about these cabins. We had a balcony cabin on the 10th or 11th floor AFT - I believe the windows work very well.

I would think they are fairly well sound-proofed. As far as being one way, I would strongly suggest that you keep your cabin lights "off" if the curtains are open.

Are you getting one for the Duck Cruise? How cool would it be to be able to scooter directly from your room to the Promenade?

Beryl - that is a nice link. Thanks for posting it, I had no idea that Lanai cabins were even available on a ship.

Maw - if you are booked in a Lanai...How handy is that - Enjoy!! :)

Beryl thanks so much for those links, Haven't read the reveiws yet but will. Nice bunch of pictures. I had no idea they had anything like Lainai rooms either till I got Mama Ducks listing. Paw is not sure think Corky he is afraid he will end up sharing views of his plaid undies with other addicts again. Personally I like the idea could not aford the balcony but heavens that would be a giant one with a good neighbor Niecie. Going to give it a try.

Go for it Maw. I bet Paw will quickly become a convert to Lanai's!

I was quite pleased to see that there is a MUTS screen at the aft retreat area. Guess we know where the Duck Pond will be!

Maw, it is cool, you and Paw can just roll out your scooters each morning and take a stroll on the Promenade Deck. Go, for it

Maw...I found the above quote on the Cruise Critic board and thought it would be a definite consideration if you want to book one of these cabins ...you might want to read the whole thread...

For that matter, I normally have a different stateroom from the new Lanai staterooms on HAL ships, and it gets hosed down as well. I don't pay attention to it. But then, I became accustomed to New York noise living there!

Beryl - we actually now have 3 Lanai cabins in a row, but I'll let the third couple pipe up if they wish. They are delightful "Ducks" from our August cruise.

Corky - at this point in time, some of the HAL ships are receiving major refits, including the addition of Lanai cabins. Veendam is one such ship.

Shipmaven - I think the Lanai cabins are a handy idea. The photos make them look nice and cozy and open, all at the same time. :)

Re: Maw Here
maw, here are a few links to the cabin that you are booking.
if you send me the cabin number I will search for photos of that actual cabin.

there is some good reading about them in these links.
When you told me about them I thought they were the ones we had seen on a ship years ago, but those were raised up off the promenade deck about 4 foot. so you had your own balcony.

With these that you are looking at, you just pop you out directly onto the promenade.. a good thing and a bad.

Very nice for ease of getting outside.

Even though they have a special coating on the windows.. remember that most reflective coatings only work with the light off
In the evening when you switch on your lights, you had best check that there is not a crack in the curtains.

Also, remember that any time you pop out those doors...the door will lock behind you.. unlike any regular balcony door. So always have your room key with you.

The constant stream of traffic would bother us, (especially the early morning joggers) but as you said, with reduced hearing, this is not a problem for you both.
hugs,
red

I also mentioned in another PM that if in the evening you can see yourself in those doors, and they look like a great mirror.. then it means that anyone outside can see in as clear as day. :) and remember.. NO GAP in those curtains.. or we will see paws shorts on you-tube..:D
