Laptop and screening.......

I'm taking my laptop on my next cruise and was just wondering how to get it through the screening while boarding. Could the metal detectors or xray machines harm any of the internal workings? Just curious about any precautions I should take.

you will carry it onboard with you- Do not check it through with your checked luggage.

the machines they use for carryons do not harm your laptops

I don't think your laptop will work on the ship's internet while in your room. The metal walls, etc. break down the signals. And of course, they don't want you to get free internet. If I remember right, they do have a 150 hour package for about $50 bucks.

I took my laptop on Valor last year. I never got online while on the cruise. We took it for our 14 y.o. daughter to use at the hotel both pre and post cruise. It also came in handy at the airport in Fort Lauderdale when our flight home was delayed. They have free Wi-Fi in all of the public areas at that airport.
At the security checkpoint in the FLL airport, they took my laptop away to turn it on to make sure it really was a laptop computer?? This didn't happen before our flight to FLL. I don't know if this airport checks all laptops or if mine somehow looked suspicious.
Obviously you want it in your carry on luggage, not the checked baggage. I had no problems with my computer after the trip.
