LAX flight out

I have a 12:40PM flight out to Raleigh on my return day. Some people say okay and others say not enough time. :-( How long did it take you getting off the ship at San Pedro to LAX?

What day of the week? The Star is on an eight day cruise, so every time it returns on a different day. The traffic is different on work days (and different on Mondays vs. Fridays) and weekends. Either way, you want to be in line, at the airport, at least one hour before departure. Which means 11:40am. Allow an 60 - 90 minutes to get to the airport (depending on traffic - it could be less, it could also be more), which means 10:40am (at least). Any custom delays and you are cutting it very close. If you could push back your departure time by about one hour, things would likely work out much better for you.

I have always been lucky to get off the boat on time with our other cruises. (about 2 hours after arriving) Watch this time be different!!!!! Leaving at 12:40 PM gets me into Raleigh at 11:15 PM with another hour and a hallf drive home after that. :-(

I have a different concern... Is it easy to get a shuttle for 4 people from LAX to the port?
Should we have reservations?
On a different note... We had our california Drivers licenses stolen at Security
at Sea Tac last Monday and have applied for duplicate drivers lic. already.
May not get them in time and do not have passports.. just old govt. issued
pic IDs amd notorized Birth Certs... Think we can get aboard...? Cruise line
and agent say it's up to Immigration... Any thoughts?

Shuttle reservation for LAX to the port is not needed, you just go out to the
shuttle pickup area and they will handle it, usually they can pair you up
with other that are going to the port as well.
An expired identification can definitely cause you problems upon returning
and clearing immigrations, could even cause problems getting on the ship.
Maybe I am missing something but since the license is not just a renewal
don't you have to be present at a DMV office for a new picture since the
license is being replaced so wouldn't this be something that would have to
be done in person?

We did go to DMV and they said it will be quicker to use the pic on file... they think there may be a chance that we will receive it Friday the 2nd the day prior to sailing... I've checked with Airlines and they say it won't be a problem, just plan on extra screening.. I bet Immigration is going to go slow.. but like I said, we do have old govt. issued ID's.. What a time to lose doc,s huh?

Whether or not making a 12:40 would work depends upon several situations when you arrive back at San Pedro. There can be delays clearing the ship, and delays at immigration once you're off the ship. We had a 12:15 flight out of LAX, and were off the ship by 9:15; however, we waited 45 minutes in the immigration line. We met our pre-arranged shuttle at 10:00, were at LAX by 10:30, and through security by 11:00. I understand that this is fairly normal, but I have heard reports of further delays. I'd stick with the 12:40 flight if that's what's available, and be sure to have travel insurance to cover delays (read the fine print to make sure it's covered).

ASunni1, hope all works out with the replacement licenses.

NCL recently changed the Stars itinerary and arrival time back to LA from 7:00 am to 9:00 am, due to azipod problems. Assuming two hours for Customs to clear the ship, and another two hours disembarking the ship, getting through Customs, traveling to the airport, and getting through airport security, you may wish to change your flight to a later departure. I'd would say everything must go perfectly and quickly to make a 1:00 pm flight.

Given Don's update, I amend my post. The experience I described was with a 7:00 am arrival. There's no way we would have made our 12:15 had our ship docked two hours later. I'd now suggest going with a later flight... as in 2:30 or later.

Thank you, Don!
