Leon update 6/4/2010

Leon will have his brain MRI Monday afternoon. His right eye rarely opens on it's own and won't stay open, but now, the left eye is about 40% affected too. We tried to get him to go to the ER or Urgent Care and he's refusing. I've tried everything to get him to go, so I suppose it's time for me to give up trying and let him do as he wishes. It makes me wonder if there's even a brain in there to scan!

If you take me serious, it's your problem
Ok.. first, let me say i hope everything turns out minor, and recovery is quick and uneventful.

Now.. As for men and doctors... It's not so much the doctors we mind, it's the bill that comes afterwards ... for that 5 min. session in which the doctor tells you what you already know... you're sick, or in this case your eye is not working right... which is usually followed up with more visits(and bills), in which they tell you you're still sick and something isn't working right. Then after they've made enough money to buy their spouse a new mercedes, they tell you "take these, for x amount of days, and come back for another visit in 2 weeks(which by the way is going ot pay for his mid week golf habit)...

So see... it's not the doctors per se..... it's all that damn paper you get in the mail afterwards....you know, the ones with all those menacing numbers on it... followed by the phrase "Pay this amount" followed by a number that usually is long enough to be someone's phone number...

Jacquie - I hope the MRI shows the problem and that it is not something really serious with no fix. Sending you both my thoughts and prayers while you wait.

Mister D21 - You hit the nail on the head. I always tell my dr that I am making his monthly mortgage payment for him this month when I see him because by the time he gets done with the tests and medications it usually ends up being some ridiculous amount. Chronic illness just adds to the total. I swear I could spend the rest of my days on a cruise ship for the amount of $$ I have spent on dr visits and hospitalizations.

Oh Jacquie, sounds so familiar. It took me three years of talking VERY LOUDLY to DH, and a 6 month campaign of getting his BF and sister to tell him HE CAN'T HEAR to get him to a hearing doctor. Yup, loss of hearing!

And it's not quite always the bill. Guy at work has Kaiser, it would cost him $30 at the most to go see his doc. He won't, so he suffers with his COPD and horrible skin rash because he doesn't want to hear what the doc will say. And that comes from the horses as... um... horses mouth!

So I understand what you are going through. Getting old is something none of us want to hear about. But at least going to the dr.'s will help us get older!

I guess you are doing the right thing, and just shutting up at this point. Two more days probably won't make much of a difference now.

Jacqiuie I know how men are wish you all were closer then Leon and I could just chat the time thru until Monday--I hate Dr's and Hospitals---and I am with him putting it off as long as I can--they start messing with meds and tests and then you end up really messed up. Tell him I am hiding in my chair this week end too. Hugs to you both. LEON MAYBE YOU BETTER LISTEN TO JACQUIE(remember she is a nurse.)

Jacquie, he's just scared. Let him know it's OK to be scared, but it's not alright to be stupid. De Nile is a river in Africa but not a way to deal with medical issues. Yes, it could be bad news, but avoiding the issues won't make it go away, and could actually make things worse (delaying identification of the problem until it is too late to do anything about it).

So, give him a hug, load him in the car and get him to the doctor ... and please, let him know we are here to help in any way we can.

In our prayers sister .....
