Lifeboat Drill

We have just completed our 18th cruise and for the first time ever females were separated from males at the lifeboat drill - ie all females were lined up at the front & males at the back. Talking on the ship - 'Infinity' - it was apparently not general, some lifeboat stations did this and some did not. My personal view is that in a real emergency situation this policy would create unneccesary panic - far better that wives should stay with husbands & partners with respective partners. I asked to speak with the ship's safety officer on board but he never came back to me - perhaps he intended to or perhaps he was rightly more concerned with the engine problem and what that could lead to. What are your views and does anyone know if this is Celebrity's policy ?

You were in Michaels Club group or the Lifeboats Port forward?? I also thought at the time this was odd and honestly had forgotten about it until I saw your post. Never has happened to us before either.I just thought at the time, well let's get it over and didn't say anything as in an actually emergency we all know what will happen. Unless you happen to having a serious disagreement with your spouse at the time, that is. Might be worthwhile to follow up on however.

Maybe the separation was to cut down on the chatter. Lifeboat drill seems so unimportant to so many until it has to be put into effect.

When we did the HAL Maasdam, they seperated the men, women and children. Women and children were up front and men in the back.

Actually it makes since. You don't get a small woman or child behind a tall man. By doing this there is a better chance that all will here the instructions and be able to see what is going on.

The cons are you are seperated from your loved ones.

The seperation happened to us on Summit this past fall...for the first time in 5 cruises, 2nd on Clebrity...I thought it was probably a women and children first thing?!!?

We just sailed the Summit on January 10th and they did the same thing in the drill by separating the men and women/children. This was the first time we have seen this on several Celebrity cruises.

Same with us on the Summit on January 31.

There were some great comments from the mens side. I better not mention them on this board. There were better jokes at the drill then some of the on board comedians had at night in their shows..
