Once again, never having been on a cruise - are the bars open as soon as the boarding process begins? If they are, can you take your drinks with you to the lifeboat run-thru?

Yes the bars are open prior to the drill but everything shuts down for the drill since the crew is also involved. You cannot take drinks with you since hands must be free and you have to be able to put life jacket on properly. Have a great time.

You can carry drinks to the lifeboat drill if they are inside of you as I often have done.

The lifeboat drill is, or should be, taken very seriously. Unfortunately, their are folks, mostly seasoned cruisers who believe it's not necessary, or folks who feel it is an inconvience to their schedules. Always, participate and pay attention to your drill. There have been emergency situations at sea and I for one want to be as informed as possible. Even though the layout of your ship may be familiar, your cabin, number in your family and physcial condition and most likely cruise staff can change from cruise to cruise. The drill is not only for the passenger, the Crew also work on the necessary procedures to move 2000 to 3000+ people to saftey. The drill lasts about 30 min from the time you don your jackets, meet , muster and get back to your cabin. Hold the drinks for the rest of the cruise and enjoy!
