We did the jungle river tour which was great - saw lots of wildlife along the river. Different birds, iguanas, crocodiles, monkeys. The tour guides were great also with all of the info that they gave. I would do this tour again in a heartbeat.

We also did the jungle river tour and really enjoyed it! Saw the same wildlife, even sleeping bats on a tree, sloths, howler monkeys, etc. It was a fun eco-bus ride back to the ship learning how the banana companies leach the resources of Costa Rica.

Bring binoculars if you go, some of the wildlife is high up in trees and far away. Those monkey really howl!

My understanding from a good friend is to do the rain forest trip...through the top of the rain forest and through the middle on an aerial tram...he said if we didn't do (which will be in November on the Brilliance) we would wish we had!!! So, guess we had better.

When you get off of the ship, turn right and you will find a Red Canopy tent with private tours and prices. These guides are very good, English speaking and will give you a great half day tour of their beautiful country. We took the #1 rated tour to Tortugera Canal and the Banana plantations. This included the canal ride through the ecosystem, stops at Playa Bonita and to experience the floral and native fruits of the area, a tour of the Dole Bannana plantation and our driver even accompanied us to a local supermarket so I could make "coffee" purchases. He helped with currency conversion, too. Although the Rain Forest tram tour is highly recommended, it is often very disappointing. It is usually warm/hot, therefore the wildlife is sleeping and hiding in the canopy of trees. Thus it rains and you get wet and you don't see anything that you thought you would. Rain Forest Canopy tours should be booked on the ship as they are capacity controlled. Earlier in the day is better for a time schedule. Lines get long and the wait even longer.

Souvenir buys @ Costa Rica: Coffee and vanilla - I bought 4 bags almost 10 lbs. , a bottle of vanila and a Qt. of mixed fruit juice for $11 US at the supermarket. At the craft bazaar at the pier, the mahogony bowl sets are beautiful. I paid $25 for the large salad bowl, with 8 small bowls and the salad fork & spoon. It is heavy to carry home, but well worth it.
bon Voyage
