Lock for balcony??

Hi,
This is probably not a common question but on our cruise in Dec. we have a friends father that has alzheimers going with his wife. She is concerned about him being able to get out onto the balcony when she is not aware. Are you able to lock the door from within or is there any suggestions. She would like to have a balcony and enjoy it with him but doesn't want to worry.
Thanks!
Lyndi

you do lock it from within but that won't help since he will be able to open it. It's not with a key or anything, just a latch.

Oh, of course! I guess what I meant :) was could she lock it with a key or something from within but that won't work with just a turn knob. Well, maybe she will feel better with just a window room.
Thanks!

on Carnival the doors swing out.. so even a door jamb wont help. No key for the balcony door.
But a curious question--if she gets an ocenview cabin..cant the husband leave the cabin without her knowing? there isnt much of a difference if its a balcony or a cabin door. he cant go nowhere unless he climbs on a chair

serene, I think she was just worried about him being disoriented and distraught and with the balcony she is concerned he might do something foolish. I hope this all works out. She is paying for , not my family, but about 15 of her own and doesn't want to miss out. She will have lots of help with the husband but this terrible disease is a concern. She is getting trip ins. of course.
Thanks and probably she will get a window room to ease her mind.

My DB has a special needs child and he is concerned about that as well. As mentioned before the Carnival doors swing out and only have a slide lock. But I did mention to him that you could use a small lock, such as a good luggage lock and put it through the slide after you slide the lock shout.

I don’t have a photo of the lock but maybe the diagram I made will give you an idea.

kakarp,
Thanks for the reply. She is going to get a balcony so we will see what we can do.

My hubby and I were always afraid of locking ourselves out on the balcony by accident because it locks from inside.
