Can anyone recommend any place to stay in Seward and/or Whittier? Is there anything to do in either place? Restaurants, shops, etc.?

Oh my,

Question 1: Why in the world are you going to be in Whittier? Fine, catch the ferry, of take a Glacier cruise, but thats it. In my opinion, it is a horrible place.

Question 2: Seward is a little different. It is a nice place to visit. There are some bed and breakfasts, as well as cabins.

I would suggest immediatley taking the shuttle to Anchorage, the drive is amazing.

I wouldn't call Whittier a terrible place but there really is nothing to do there other than a glacial tour. They were building a new hotel when we were there this past summer but there still is nothing else to do or see in the town.

Seward has a few interesting things to do and see such as the Aquarium and wildlife boat tours. Seward also has several different places to stay.

Of course, it depends where you ship will dock. If in Whittier, it is a ways back down to Seward. If in Seward, then no reason to go into Whittier. Nothing there, really.

If your ship is going to dock in Seward I would recommend the Ballaine House B & B (www.superpage.com/ballaine). It is run by Marilee Koszewski who is a delightful hostess. She picked me up at the ferry terminal; took me on a tour of the town (all 3 streets); insisted I use a heavier coat she had at the B & B during my Wildlife Cruise; insisted I use her car to drive to the glacier; and drove me to the train station when I left. And, the B&B was very nice.
