Long Week -

Ahoy There AFTers !

Well, it's certainly been a loooonnnnggggg week. Mom took a series of "falls" and went to hospital twice. The most recent episode was this morning. After more tests, exams, assessments, surveys and other stuff than I even knew existed; we've finally gotten her transferred to a fully assisted living center.

It looks as though it's going to end up being a one-way trip. Basically, she's severely out of shape, no muscle tone, grossly obese and has some serious psycholocgic problems. At (almost) 81, the time just isn't there to rehabilitate, even if she were willing to try (and she isn't).

Anyway, I'm back on-line and looking forward to doing the C@ thing .....

Oh boy, it's that circle of life thing. Yes, hard on them, hard on us. Is she ok with the assisted living environment? They often really change not long after the transer to that, Calgon. They aren't in the home they have been in for so long, they aren't around their own things that are so familiar and comforting. 81 really isn't that old, but it all depends on your health. At least you didn't mention any hip breaks due to any of her falls. Visit her often, and keep in touch.

Art, sounds like it has been a rough week for you and your mom. I hope things work out for her in the new environment, and she can have better health. God bless..

Sorry to hear Calgon. Hope your mom is adjusting. There are many good ACLF's and I am sure you picked one that will take good care of your mom. It is a hard thing, I know. The most important thing is that she gets the care she needs.

Sorry to hear about your mom.

We went through the hospital thing with my mom this week too. It's tough. The nursing home/assisted living future has come up with her too. She doesn't need it now, but it could be in the near future.

Take care. It's hard for us kids too.

I'm so sorry, Calgon, I know how you feel, and my prayers are going out to you. Unfortunately, when people start falling, we're forced to do something, and it's never what we would prefer to do. My father absolutely refused to move anywhere, so when I took him to the hospital after I found him on the floor and unable to get up, I actually had to be interviewed by the county sheriff to rule out Elder Abuse. In Oklahoma, if family members do not intervene and do something to avoid more falls or get the family member "adequate care"( 24 hour direct observation), you can be charged with elder abuse, and the Department of Human Services can remove the person from their home to place them into DHS custody. I had absolutely NO idea about any of these laws, and have no idea if it's the case in all states, but it was a nightmare.
