Lost Review

My wife and I are sailing on the 9/20 western carribean cruise of the Zuiderdam in an S class suite. We both read parts of a very complimentary review including an excellent description of the S Class suites recently. The lady and her husband stayed in th S class and their 2 sons were in an inside cabin accross the hall. She gave a very good description of the suite including the fact that she thought it must have been designed by a woman.

Our problem is that we can no longer find the review.

Does anyone else remember reading this review, and if so, can you please point us to where we may find it?

Thanks for your help.

Ernie,
The review you are looking for is for the Zaandam on an Alaska Passage.

You will find it on the review board by Benzygirl submitted 7/23/03.

Hope this helps.

The "S" Suite on the Zuiderdam is not exactly like the "S" on the other HAL ships. There are many similiarities but it is slightly smaller on ZUDM and the veranda is also a bit smaller. They are still very, very good size and some features are actually better IMO

One thing that really irks me re: ZU Suite is the removal of 9 drawers. There is still plenty of storage and the closet space is excellent but I cannot figure out what genius chose to leave an empty space where those drawers should be. Presumably, it is so you can pull up a chair and use the counter as a desk but there is a perfectly good space on the other side of the cabin which could be used for that purpose.

I hope at some point, they may put those drawers back in the Suite.

We really enjoyed the ship and are returning this month for another set of b-to-b's. Hope you have a gret cruise.

After reading this board for a couple of weeks, I knew I would find some kind folks to point me in the right direction. The people here seem to be extremely friendly and helpful.

Bruce, thanks so much for pointing us in the right direction. We were beginning to think we had been in the Bermuda Triangle when we thought we read the review. Also, S7S, thanks for pointing out the differences in the Zuiderdam suites.

This will be our first HAL cruise, and our first in a suite. We have previously sailed on Carnival, NCL and Princess. We both are looking forward to what we expect to be a nice step up.

Best wishes.

Ernie,
I think you would probably find all the boards to be rather helpful, but, we do have something a little special on the HAL board, IMHO.

Sail is our resident HAL expert, and to everyones great surprise, has become the official spokesperson for the Zuiderdam. I still favor the Zaandam and Statendam, but I guess there is just no accounting for taste..smiles..

I am sure if you have questions about the Zuiderdam, Sail can answer them for you.

Once again welcome to the board.

Thanks for the nice words, Bruce.

No ONE is MORE SURPRISED than me that I really do like that ship. I fully expected to say, Nope....not for us, but she won us over very quickly.

That is most certainly not to say that we do not still love MY MAASDAM and the other "dam" ships. I expect we shall rotate around among the Vista and the S-Class and others.

The Zaandam review by Benzygirl mentions free laundry and dry cleaning services for the S class PAX. I know Sail says that the S class on the Zuiderdam are not exactly the same as the Zaandam. Are those differences only in cabin configuration, or do they also extend to different levels of service?

We would not want to be disappointed in expecting anything that will not be provided. The complementary laundry and dry cleaning will affect the way we pack for the trip, so we are particularly interested in that.

Thanks for your help.

The "S" suite amenities are exactly the same on all HAL ships.

The cabin is a bit different but all of the wonderful extras are the same....including dry cleaning/laundry/pressing.
