Has anyone done the Everglades excursion? What happens to your luggage? What if we want to do something in town afterwards before going on the plane? We will have a lot of time to kill before we catch our plane so will we need to take our luggage with us or do they get checked in?
Did you enjoy the excursion?

Re: Luggage, airport & Everglades excursion

Havent done that particular excursion, but have taken a post cruise excursion with RCCL (in San Juan).....

the way it works is you and your luggage go on the sightseeing bus.....

After the tour, the bus takes you to the aiport...........

You claim your luggage right there at the bus.........so its up to you to go get checked in.......

Not sure if Miami(or Ft Lauderdale) airport has a checked in luggage area if you are too early to check into your flight........thereby freeing up your hands so you can go into town.......

BUT one other thing.........depends on which airline you're on.......there is a lugggae valet servie....let me go find that info for you..

Did you enjoy the excursion?[/quote]I did this excursion from Miami in June after my cruise on the Freedom of the Seas. The excursion was actually quite fun. I have some photos, but they are not hosted on the Internet and since I leave for a two week cruise tomorrow, there is no chance of my being able to post any photos prior to March.

The luggage goes in the bus with you. You take a bus ride to the Everglades. There you have lunch (not included in the price of the excursion), ride the air boats and watch a show. Then the bus takes you to the airport.

Once at the airport you could check your luggage and then go into town.

Re: Luggage, airport & Everglades excursion

We did this excursion after our cruise concluded in Ft. Lauderdale and the bus delivered us to the airport at the conclusion of the excursion (which we enjoyed tremendously). We were at the airport a little past 1 pm and since our flight was not scheduled to leave until 6:45 pm (it ended up leaving at 8:30pm:(), Jet Blue would not let us check our luggage until three hours before our scheduled departure time. The departures terminal at FLL is not a place you want to spend any significant length of time. There are no restaurants until after you get through security, so you are restricted to a small snack stand on the lower level across from the baggage terminals. Choices are limited to a few wrapped sandwiches, candy bars and other snacks, soda and bottled water. There are TV monitors with some Airport TV programming (news, weather etc.) located above the carousels, but none upstairs in the main terminal. When we were finally able to check in and get through security we found that our dining options consisted of a Chili's Express and a partly functioning Italian stand whose pizza ovens were not in operation. Needless to say, by the time our flight finally departed at 8:30 pm, we were pleased to bid farewell to Ft. Lauderdale airport, and we are not anxious to return.:X

Re: Luggage, airport & Everglades excursion

We just came back yesterday and I will report on how this went.
The worst part of this was since we were priority because of the excursion we had to be ready to leave at 7am! We are not the type to sleep late but when on vacation we don't like to get up at 5am. We enjoyed the excursion - lots of fun or very organized to make everything nice and smooth! But what was really great was our tour guild Gordon. He asked everyone what time their plane leaves and made suggestions. Our plane was scheduled for 7pm and our airline (Midwest) would not check in the luggage until 4pm. The airport (Ft. Lauderdale) did have an early luggage storage service for $6 per bag. We took the taxi to Riverwalk about a $16 ride plus tip. River walk was interesting and lots of nice shops. This helped us extend our warm weather soak-in before returning home to MORE SNOW.

Re: Luggage, airport & Everglades excursion

In about three weeks we'll be disembarking our ship at Pt. Canaveral and are thinking of doing the Everglades excursion or renting a car and heading on over to Sea World where we can spend a good portion of our day before dropping off the car near the airport (MCO). If we take the Everglades excursion I understand we will probably arrive at the airport around 1, 1:30. Our flight doesn't leave until 6:45 p.m. and we don't want to sit in the airport any longer than we have to. We found our that Air Tran participates in the Express Bags program where you can sign up on the ship and on the last night when you put your bags out in the hallway you won't see them again til you arrive at your home airport. On the night before you will receive your boarding pass and your baggage claim form. The cost is around $15 - 20 pp.
