well, you probablly won't disembark until 10 or 11am and then, you have to retrieve your luggage, find a porter, clear customs and then a cab to the airport - wait in security for 30 to 60 mins, so unless you are planning to do something in Ft. Lauderdale, it shouldn't be an issue.
My flights are always around 1-2pm, and I'm usually off the ship and at the VERY BORING FLL airport by 10am, with nothing to do for hours, unless a friend picks me up and we go to lunch. With your flight being so late, see if you can take a day tour of FLL from Celebrity. That way you won't be schlepping your bags around and you can relax in a nice atmosphere. The whole Pier 66 area (where we dock) has lots of restaurants, boat tours, etc. I would not - repeat not - head directly to the aiport gate, unless you don't mind reading a book in a hard chair for many hours.
ps - having a 6pm flight means Princess will make you wait until the last group of passengers to get off (unless you are elite or something). Even still, "finding your bag and customs" takes 20-30 min. Security at FLL is never more than 15-20 min. So give it some thought, but one way or the other you WILL be off that ship by 11am with nowhere to go. What you COULD do is check your bags at the airport and LEAVE. The airport is 15 minutes from the ship - go check your bags and then grab a cab somewhere.....here's some ideas.
Uh oh, just remembered. They won't allow you to check bags more than 4 hours before the flight. I ran into that problem in California last year. The latest I've ever seen passengers disembarking was noon, and that was due to customs not clearing the ship for some reason. So take a land tour with Celebrity. That's why they have them...there are a lot of people stuck with nowhere to go until their flight.
