Maasdam's new 45 day itinerary in 2011

We had booked the Maasdam's Nov 7 -- 10 day "Saints" cruise just about a month ago. We loved the idea that we would be going to St Vincent, St Croix, etc. Well the other day our TA got a fax from HAL that that cruise along with a few other Maasdam cruises had all been cancelled. No reason was given why.

But now appearing on HAL's website is a new 45 day itinerary where she will be going to Europe. You can do the entire 45 day cruise round trip from Ft Lauderdale or you can do the first segment which is 23 days (Ft Lauderdale to Rome) or the second segment (Rome to Ft Lauderdale).

There were quite a few people who had booked those cruises -- it is a popular one as the Maasdam is a smaller ship and can get into some of those ports where the larger ships can't.

We have looked at the few ships that HAL has left in the Caribbean and there are not much there with different itineraries.

So far it is not selling well. And to think they cancelled 4 Caribbean cruises for this one cruise.

It's so unusual for HAL to do a late October Transatlantic and cruise Europe all of November return to FLL mid December. Itinerary is nice but the time year? It'll be interesting to see how well it sells.

I haven't looked but have to imagine it's a higher per diem than the Caribbean cruises were. Some of the Caribbean per diem rates are ridiculously low. IMO How can they keep up a standard if they offer some cruises at $599 for OV, ten day cruise? To charge $59.99 is incredible and certainly cannot 'meet the overhead'. Something has to give at too many people on the ship at that cheap a rate IMO

I don't see people paying $40,000 total for 2 people for the full 45 day cruise.

There will certainly be some people who will be offered upsells.
