Martinique

We will be on the Destiny May 4-11, 2003. Was wondering what to do in Martinique? I read somewhere to take a cab to St. Pierre and go through the jungle and climb the waterfalls. Anyone have anymore information on this? What is the name of the waterfalls? Were they easy to climb or do you need to be an expert? How long does it take to get to St. Pierre?

Any information will help.

Thanks,

Mary Kay

Hey

Never been there , just wanted to pop in to say hey and hope someone knows . Im sure Norm would know something as much as he has cruised..

I know I always go to about every website and punch in my search engine for ports and places and that helps .

Im sure you will have a great time tho

I was on the Legend last November and really did not care for Martinique but maybe we did not give it a chance. We just basically took a taxi to the downtown area and I thought that is was the pits. Very dirty. Others have stated that they arranged for a tour of the island and enjoyed it. As soon as you step off the ship there will be many taxi drivers there to negotiate a deal on an island tour. Some take a tour to see the volcano.

Thank you,
Anytime Martinique comes up I always wait for somebody else to say something bad first. My experience was that it is the only destination I have been to that I have no interest whatsoever in going back to. I found it dirty, unfriendly and the only place in the Caribbean where I have ever paid $6.50 each for a Corona, damn good thing the waitress forgot to bring us the second round.

My husband and I took the DESTINY on the same itinerary for our honeymoon June 23-30, 2002,... and we had the most wonderful time! We are young, (22&23 at the time) and had never been to the Carribbean or cruised, so we didn't have much to compare things to, but we loved it. If you have any questions about the ports, the ship, anything...I'd be glad to help! As for Martinique in particular, i thought it was one of the most culturally interesting and naturally beautiful islands we saw. Definetely get out beyond Fort-de-France, that's the mistake so many people w/negative comments made. You can't judge an island by the port city. Again, i'd love to chat if you have any questions! OH - I just noticed you leave in a couple days... HOW I WISH I COULD GO AGAIN!!! HAVE FUN!
