Has anyone been to the ruins at Chacchoben? My wife and I really want to see some Mayan ruins and we thought that Costa Maya would be a good opportunity since most of the information I've seen on the message boards is that there is not much there. Also we wanted to shop and hang out in Cancun. We're first time cruisers and are looking for a little advice

Thanks

First, it would help people to know what cruiseline you will be on, some offer different shore excrusions than others.

Second, I haven't been there yet, but plan on going next spring. I believe in planning ahead, so here are some links I found while I was looking for a dive operator at that stop.

Hope these help

We went there last Oct. on the Carnival Pride. The ruins were fun, and very informative. There isn;t a lot to do in costa mya as far as excursions go...I think this was one of the better ones...except for the dogs (there were several pitiful looking strays that looked nearly starved to death...reminds you you're in a third world country, we managed to find a candy bar for them but that was about all that was available...very loyal animals stayed with our group for the whole tour) ...anyway there is some shopping at the ruins and a huge shopping area at the end of the pier (there are shows, dancers, a pool, hammoks, a small beach area and food there also)

Hope you enjoy!
