Has anyone ever been on the "Mayan Ruins of Tulum" tour offered by Carnival?

Do they serve lunch or any kind of refreshments? Is it a guided tour or do they just drop you off to wander around? How long is the bus ride?

We plan to sail on the Triumph in September and Travelocity indicates a stop in Playa Del Carmen for 30 minutes before the ship arrives in Cozumel. Can we actually get off the ship in Playa Del Carmen for the tour so that we don't have to take the ferry all the way back?

Does anyone know if there are independant operators who offer the same sort of tour?

I made this trip (offered by Carnival for $79 adult / $39 child) in May 2003 from Cozumel.
We started with 40 min ferry ride to Playa Del Carmel where you will board bus (with A/C) for one hour drive to Tulum. An approximate 50 min rest & shopping stop will be made at the Lapis jewelry factory. Once, you arrive at the ruins, your guide will escort you and also you will have free time to explore the site. The same bus will return you to your ferry. If you want to take a video camera into the ruins fee US $10. No tripods! We received some light snack and little juice box on the bus. Also, we had unlimited Mexican beer and soft drinks before return trip. All tour was about 7 - 8.5 hours and started/ended right off the ship. We even had some time for Cozumel! It’s a great tour. You will enjoy it. You can look at some pictures at:
