i am planning on doing the mayan ruin excursion and want to get some feedback if anyone has done it. I am intested in doing it while in Progresso and visiting the Itchen Itza ruins. it says its a 7 hour excursion so i want to make sure it is worth my time and money.

I have done the Chichen Itza tour through Carnival and loved it. I love history, archaeology, seeing different places and learning about different people and their history.
In my opinion it was well worth the money and time. Chichen Itza is now listed as one of the wonders of the world.
However, everyone is different. Some people rather lie on the beach, soak up the sun, etc. If that's your thing, then I wouldn't go. But if seeing the country side, seeing something you have never seen and probably will never see again and and you are interested in seeing Mayan ruins, then this is the tour for you. After Chichen Itza, the other ruins like Tulum , Altan Ha, etc. pale in comparison. Take some bug spray as sometimes the mosquitos can be bad.
Chichen Itza is so big that you can't possibly see it all in a day but you can see enough to understand what is was and is. There are shops, restaurants, etc. right at the entrance to the ruins.
Go--have fun and take a lot of photos. As I said before , if you enjoy this sort of activity rather than lounging about on the beach, I think you will be in for a great day. :wave :wave

The tour guides on this type of excursion have, in our experience, always been fabulous. However, just be prepared.... the 7 hours is made up of about 4 to 5 hours bus time, and the remainder is at Chitzen Itza.

We really want to go see this marvelous place, but the long bus ride and short time there has discouraged us. We will likely plan a trip to the Yucatan in which we can stay near the ruins, and have more time to tour.

Have a great time!

I went to Chichen Itza in 1993 when staying in Cozumel for one week (not a ship tour). I really liked it (and I was not impressed by Tulum). So, while I have no experience with the ship tour, I do think the destination is worth the trip.

Tulum, while small has a beautiful location on the shore. Chitzen Itza though is the gem. While the bus ride is loong there and back it is definetly worth it.

My wife and I did both ruins and found them fascinating. We had no idea how technically advanced the Mayans were. It's a can't miss!
Enjoy!

My husband did this excursion and said it was well worth the time on the bus and the money! He'd do it again if he had the chance!

Since Chichen Itza is now a "wonder of the world" everyone wants to see it. We opted instead to go to Uxmal which is close to Chichen Itza. It is beautiful without the huge crowds that go to CI. We had two tour guides, one talked to us on the bus to Uxmal and the other gave us the tour once we were there. There are huge pyramids and lots of ruins to see. We could climb one of the pyramids, while I believe I read recently that there is no more climbing at CI. We did the tour through Carnival and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you go during the summer, it is very hot at either place so take good walking shoes, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. We did not take bug spray nor did we need it. The bus trip to Uxmal was about 1 3/4 hours and about 1 1/2 hour return. We arrived back at the Progreso Terminal with about an hour to shop and get back on the ship. Hope you have a great cruise.
