Mens Dress "slacks"

Hi everyone,
We're going to the Caribbean in May on the Carnival Victory...have a question about dress codes for the dining room for men. Except on the formal nights (where my hubby WILL wear a suit) what exactly does "slacks" mean?? Can this include jeans?? Might sound dumb but just not sure of the definition of slacks.
Thanks from the wardrobe terminology challenged!!!

While there is no rule expressly forbidding jeans, there are many who feel jeans "have no place" at the evening meal. Other than Formal Nights, Polo Shirt/Dockers are fine

They really do frown on jeans in the dining room. Khakis, dockers, those kind of pants are just fine. You don't have to wear dressy slacks for the informal nights. A pair of dockers a polo type shirt will be just fine.

Thanks for the advice - time to get hubby out shopping! It's terrible to get somewhere and feel way over or under dressed.

Hello DT,

Yes the word "slacks" really does not encompass the casualness of blue jeans. Also there is the fact that, on other cruise lines, jeans ARE expressly forbidden, and since so many cruisers sail on those lines too, the prohibition seems to carry over. Also, you have to think about comfort, jeans really are kind of heavy for the hot muggy weather. Put it all together and you just don't see many jean at all on the ship.

The exception, of course, is boarding day when some people are stuck wearing their travel clothes to dinner, as their luggage has not yet been delivered to their cabins. Those poor things always look like they want nothing more than to get out of those heavy clothes.

Nothing is worse than some Red-Neck slob wearing Jeans, Shorts, or a T-shirt in the dining room. Unfortunately it happens.
