Going to Mexico on the Mercury. Anything I should know about the ship first? Anything you liked or didn't like? Thanks.

I am going on this cruise in January. Looking forward to it.

I haven't sailed the mercury, but I sailed the Century back in 2001to the caribbean and it was the best cruise ever!! =)

I am taking the Mercury Cruise to Mexico on Oct 26. I have the same questions that you have... It would be fun to find someone on here who is also going on the Oct Cruise out of San Francisco... Anyone out there going on that trip???

Check out the reviews. The Mercury is a great ship. The service and formality is a step up from RCCL and NCL (which we also like). Our Oct 19, 2003 cruise out of San Francisco will be our third cruise on the Mercury in 24 months.

GregR: Would you do me a favor? We are booked on the Mercury, 12 day Alaska, next May and have cabin 1240. Could you check out the position for us? It's on the Sky deck, aft, and was wondering if the cabin location is good for an Alaska cruise.

Many thanks for your help.

Mary,

Cabin number 1240 is in a very good location. It is mostly the very deluxe sky suites on this deck. The navigator club is forward on this deck and provides 270 degrees of very large and spectacular glass windows for great viewing of the scenery. The buffet is directly below the cabin.

The only possible problem is that the balcony is partially open to the sun deck above. But, I don't think this would be a problem on an Alaska cruise. Some people don't think a balcony is that important for Alaska. Our first balcony was on an Alaska cruise (different ship) and we thought it was great for viewing the glaciers and beautiful scenery.

The Celebrity web site <http://www.celebrity.com/deck.asp?s=6F259EDA4B&sh=MR&d=SKmentions>
shows the cabin position as well as the deck layouts. It also mentions that for sailings commencing on or after Jan. 1, 2004, the deck plans for this ship will be different. I don't know what that is all about. If I find out next month, after our trip, I will let you know.

I checked out the May itineraries and they sound great. I'm sure you will enjoy the ship and the cruise.

Thank you, Greg R. This will be our 11th cruise on Celebrity but our first on Mercury, and our second cruise to Alaska. We've been on the Century and the Galaxy and I love the Century class ships. Cabin 1240 is Concierge Class now.

Even though May is kind of early for Alaska I couldn't resist the itinerary. I wish there were more like that. We like cruises that are over 7 days. It takes me 7 days to unwind so I'm always looking for interesting cruises of over 7 days.

Four of us will be on the Oct 19 Mercury.

Those of you going, can I ask a favor? Go to the Cruise Critis message board,
register if you already aren't registered.

Then go to the Celebrity board, then Roll Calls, and register for the cocktail party. If we have 25 people registered, Celebrity will give us a free coctail party.

Went on the Mercury for an inspection yesterday with a travel agent group. We were surprised at how small the cabin was, 1022. It is toward the bow, where the deck curves inward. Not a two-butt sofa, just a large chair. We did like the bathroom layout, good -sized shower, but the old snake-in-a-box hair dryers. I'm bringing my own.

Disembarkation was quite late, the guard said it was due to Customs being late, and something about a crunch with Fleet Week and the Navy ships in port.

Just discovered this web site, so have just done my first posts.

Bon Voyage! See you on Sunday!

Mary El, if you are going to Alaska May 17, it shouldn't be too bad. The 5th is a bit early for my taste. Lived in Anchorage 25 years. Spring does come a few weeks earlier in SouthEast, but it can be chilly.

Our two Alaska cruises, one North, one South, were on May 21 and 22, had fabulous weather.

Be sure to bring lots of sweaters, layering is the trick.

Remember, SouthEast Alaska is a temperate rain forest. Ketchikan gets 188 inches a year. It takes a lot of rain to grow those trees.
