Mercury - cabin outside aft vs. forward?

Hello. We're taking our first cruise this year. We're planning on going on a 12-day cruise to Alaska in May on the Celebrity Mercury.

I need some help with cabins. Is it better to be on an outside view on the aft (rear) or forward of the deck? We're looking at cabins on the Vista deck. Note that the children's pools is at the aft end of the Vista deck, so that's why we're leaning towards a forward cabin.

We heard that forward cabins are not as "stable" as the aft cabins, although we heard the noise level can be pretty bad on the aft cabins on the Mercury.

Your thoughts?

Many thanks!

Hi Fonqa,
We have sailed on the Mercury on the Alaska itinerary in the past. In general we find that it is usually quieter in the forward cabins, and it was quiet on the Mercury. Stability should not be a problem as most of your voyage you will be in the inland water ways protected from heavy seas and winds. Pitch and roll are much the same on a ship of this size depending on how far you are from the center of the ship and the water line. We had a great time on our Alaskan cruise and loved the ship and the itinerary.

We were in 1022 on Mercury, and it was much smaller than the advertised 172 sq ft,
which in itself is small.

Don't go too far forward, you will lose space where the ship narrows down.

I happen to be going on the Alaska Cruise on May 5th out of San Francisco on the Mecury and I got an inside room just 4 cabins forward of the aft elevators on the 9th deck. Celebrity told me it was an excellent location. I hope they were correct. I want quite too.
Any comment?

Hi..

WE booked a catagory 12 Guarantee..found out today that we have a catagory 9 inside room on the Penthouse deck..forward of the forward elevators...so..we are happy that we are not right over the engines! We are under the spa, over other passenger cabins so it shouldn't be too noisy..

Does anyone know if this room is for sure? or is it possible that it will change?

We sailed on the Mercury in a (very) forward cabin. The pitching motion was very noticable on one night when I lurched to the Purser's desk for some dramamine. By the time I got that far back (midships), it wasn't moving much at all. Kids thought it was great getting "air time" off the top bunks! I'd go midships-to-aft, myself.

Our first cruise in 98' I was on the Galaxy (Mercury's sistership) Inside Passage to Alaska & I got seasick.
I learned my lesson the hard way so now I take 'non-drowsy dramamine' every evening onboard (starting 24 hours before I get on the ship. ).
Select a mid ship cabin on a low deck for the smoothest ride & if that's not available go aft.
Do not go forward.....I repeat, DO NOT go forward.
