I received a call from Celebrity Cruise Lines yesterday morning to advise that Mercury will be changing home ports for Alaska sailings next year. Mercury will now be sailing from the port of Vancouver, Canada and not Seattle, Washington as originally scheduled.

Celebrity is giving guests already booked on Mercury a $100 per cabin ship board credit and will cover any airline change fees up to $100 per person for guests who have already purchased airline tickets to Seattle on their own.

Not sure but it would seem logical that it would sail from the same port as Infinity.

The reason given was that it would avoid the 1 hour stop at Prince Rupert thus saving the costs of docking there for such a short time.

Thks. Its easy to see why they switched back to a Canadian Port for the "Jones" act shuffle of course and Alaska is actually almost a day closer on the water from Vancouver also which I think is likely the real reason and the reason that most cruises with slower ships started from here in the first place years ago.

Plus of course Vancouveis much nicer. (said with tougue in cheek of course)

Yeah, the conventional wisdom is that it is because of scheduling. I loved sailing from Vancouver. It is a beautiful city.
