Midnight Buffet???

Hello Everyone,

I'm sailing on the Splendor in just a few weeks and the food options seems almost endless. My main reason for shedding 20 pounds, half way there with 6 weeks to go : ) Since food is always on your mind when your dieting and as part of my note pad of research, I wanted to here about the Special Late Night Buffet. Can anyone tell me where they normally set that up at night, what time it opens up and how often they do it, plus how is it, what types of goodies?? : )

Thanks

Jon : )

The Midnight buffet is usually the 2nd formal night. They open it up at 11am for people to go through the line and take pictures only. Then at midnight they open it up for everyone to enjoy. I have only actually gone through the line to eat once. We always eat at the later dinner setting so it's usually 9:30 or 10p before were out so we are in now way hungry. You will mostly see lots of desserts, breads and snack type stuff. Do take your camera and go through the line at 11p. You will see some amazing things. Oh ya, make sure you post your pictures when you return.

They usually set this up in the buffet area. Where they have the buffets set up for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Mojo2Rusty did a good job at explaining it. That's the big Grand Gala Buffet and they do a nice job. There are some fancier items and cold fish on the buffet too that most people don't touch. I usually go for the fancy cheeses and desserts. Also Carnival opens up a late night buffet for a few hours each night. This usually opens around 11pm and features an array of cookies, burgers, hot dogs, pizza, and some other specialty items just in case you get that midnight craving on a night other than the Grand Gala Buffet night. One last thing, if you are on the right ship at the right time, Carnival has a Chocolate Buffet featuring everything chocolate including a huge chocolate fountain. Don't miss it!

I forgot about the Chocolate buffet. Yep it's a must see. On the night of the deck party, I believe it is they have the late night Mexican Buffet out on the Lido deck. It's usually pretty good too.

I too will be sailing on the Splendor 11/29 maybe we will bump into one another.

Of all our sailings, I have only once been awake to view the midnight buffet but could not partake as it was beyond my bedtime (hahaha).

Definately try and do that. Susan and I have met up with fellow @ddicts on several cruises. We have met up for cocktails, meals etc. Always a pleasure to hook up with fellow @ddicts. Try and contact each other via PM so you can exchange contact info. Make sure to post a photo of your "mini-meet".

=funsign on your cruise =sailor

Every night Carnival offers food. I think most times it's called the Midnight Bistro - or something like that now, instead of Buffet. We've noticed most ships have gone to burger, hot dogs, fries a salad or two, a couple of desserts and fruit. They are NOT the nightly buffets of years ago, where there was a theme each night with lots of stuff to choose from. Even so they have pretty good burgers and hot dogs. (There's usually one other hot dish as well.) As everyone else said there is the Gala Buffet - in one of the main dining rooms, and the Mexican Buffet - that one is usually on the Lido deck pool side, and the chocolate buffet is sometimes held in the mid-afternoon (we've missed a couple because we weren't aware of that). There is 24 hour pizza and I think the ice cream machine is on most of the time, too...so there is always something to eat! Sometimes we've seen more kids at the midnight buffet than adults. It's an interesting time...we've seen some drama at the midnight buffets too! Oh...check your Carnival Caper for the times as it is sometimes late due to shows or early due to port arrival the next day.

This thread started back in November. Since then, Gala Midnight Buffets have been discontinued. They had elaborate ice and food carvings and beautiful food displays. BUT, almost all of it was thrown in the garbage. People came, took many photos. Grazed a tiny bit or not at all and the food was wasted.
Now they have one theme buffet on the Lido deck [weather permitting] where the food is to be eaten, not photographed.

EVERY night in the Lido buffet, they open a serving line of food. Again, no displays, just a buffet if you are hungry.

Wow I'm kind of disappointed. Half the fun was taking the pictures, although I do understand why since alot of food goes into it and is wasted. You'd think they could package it all up and donate it somewhere at the next port :(

I sailed the Carnival Miracle last February and I was disappointed with the food service and lack of food served. I had been on one previous cruise on the Triumph in 2005 and food was plentiful at all hours and in abundance!! On the Miracle I really struggled since anytime the buffet on the Lido was open it was so packed you had to wait forever. Sometimes I just get a craving at midnight or at 3 am.......know what I'm saying lol.

Ah well, there is always the pizza and caesar salad......but neither are my favorite. The fries are yummy though, but can't eat too many of those :p

Where did you get this information from? Last I heard they still had one Gala Midnight Buffet per cruise.

You may check with Carnival yourself. NOW, they have the late nite bistro where one serving line is open in the Lido buffet each evening. And on western Caribbean sailings, the have the Mexican Buffet one night [leaving Cozumel] on the Lido deck by the pool. But no elaborate displays and carvings there, just a deck party with food. They may have it on eastern Caribbean cruises too.
It is 2 years or less since they went from nightly Gala Midnight Buffets to just the one. Now in just the last month or two, that has gone away too. So "The Big Waste" is gone, for the hungry, there is the bistro buffet at 11:30 and room service sandwiches, no charge. [tip]

That's really quite depressing actually. But I suppose if it keeps cruise fare down it has to be done.

ahhh.
darn. i have never been on cruise and i was looking forward to seeing the beautiful art (and i was actualy gonna eat it too, lol)
but as the two above have mentioned, if its a waste and if its expensive, i can live without it.
:)
p.s. i just wonder what else will be cut back on. im worried that by the time i go, it will be a mere sail boat with 3 hots and a cot..
=huh
