Could someone please enlighten me about the military discount on Carnival? My TA said you have to be active duty military but then later I read something that made me think that prior active duty members could get a discount. Which is correct?

We use the military discount on Carnival. If one has served 2 years and is honorably discharged, with proof of papers he/she is eligible for a discount. They are becoming stricter though, the last time we used it they wanted the military papers faxed within 24 hours for eligiblity. Make sure your face page as all nec. info re. your trip.
This gets faxed to the INTERLINE DESK. Call Carnival and ask for this dept. and they will give you details. All other cruise lines require a 20 year tour of duty or active duty. Your TA should have this info. That's his/her job!! You will neversee the UPGRADE FAIRY if you book w/ military discount. The discount applies to the military person and their cabin mate.

You cannot get airfaire with the military discount either. However, the discount is substantial so it is worth it to try and get it.

My dad was in the service many many many many years ago and they got the military discount. With one of the promos Carnival was offering last spring, it included our cabin as well. Like I said, it is quite a bit of savings.

We just got back from our first cruise, My wife and I had one room at the military discount rate but they made us pay full price for our son's room. They changed policy in June of this year, only the room that the military member is staying in is eligible for the rate.

Twice a year Carnival has run the military "friends and family" special where you can book up to 3 cabins at the military discount. They ran it for Veteran's Day (not sure if it's still goin on)

As someone else mentioned they do offer the military Friends and Family specials about twice a year - they just had one in November (for the entire month) and it seems they do it in May (these months both celebrated veterans - Memorial and Veterans Days). In November you could get 3 cabins - they have done as many as 4 - this is total including the military persons. Let's say you book 3 cabins now - one on the military rate and in May they run the special - IF the military rate is still available for your sailing you can call and get the other 2 cabins at the military rate. If you haven't paid final payment they adjust your final payment amount - if you have paid final payment then they give you onboard credit.

When you send your DD-214 be sure to blacken out your social security number - they don't need it and you don't need anyone else to see it.

I love that Carnival recognizes not just active and retired but vets also. My husband is retired Navy and I'm an Army vet - so in a pinch we can get extra cabins.

We just booked a cruise on the Legend using the military discount and the savings were huge! Military discounts are one of the biggest reasons I keep cruising with Carnival.

We used the military discount too! My husband retired from the airline business and we could get two cabins with that and they gave us the third cabin using a military discount. Nice rate! You do have to send them your DD-214 within 24 hours to get the rate. I called and they received it and credited us that rate right away. We need all the discounts we can get!!:)-D

Can someone tell me where you go to find the military rate? My husband and I are planning our first cruise in September on Glory fr the Western Caribbean and would like to see the rates for retired military (20+ years in the Navy).

Thank you for your help.

You can also try Vacationstogo dot com
Remember, not all sailing and/or ships offer the military discount.
Move your cruise date to 4 Oct and come sail on the Glory with us. Wife and I (Retired Army, 20 + years), my brother (Retired Navy, 20+ years) and his son, and 3 other couples, not military, but friends and family.

I just contacted NCL, they also offer military discounts. And veterans count as military, lucky for me! :thumb

I was able to find the military pricing for all cruise lines on cruise dot com.

On both previous cruises with Carnival, One in Feb and one in Oct. I asked about the discount and was given it with no problems. Was even allowed to book the additional cabins at the same rate. 2 on the Feb cruise and 3 on the Oct cruise. All they needed was my I.D.
I'm 100% service connected disabled, (not that you could look at me and tell) Must be a mental thing LOL sorry, anyway All I did was email the carnival rep a scanned copy of my ID card while we were on the phone and that was all they needed
