The missus and me have been in "cruise" control mode all week as we head to Ft Lauderdale saturday to catch the Legend on sunday. We cannot WAIT to get there......

Our grandson started bumming out as we started to pack this week, as he cannot go. There are issues at home and we are in essence raising him. We ALmost took him with us this year, but we had already locked in and there were no balcony cabins available to accomodate the three of us. To make this up to him, we promised to take him out with us next year. I started to look online for next April. We decided a Western would be a good trip for him to start on so i called my agent to get a feel for prices.....we were looking for a cat 8b on the Triumph for April 14th of 2007. We've already sailed on her a few cruises back so.

The agent calls me back and asked if i was a veteran, yes i am......Carnival has a military promotion for that week and she was able to knock off close to $500.00 off the cruise price. $593 for the missus and me and $300 for the littleman........taxes etal are $200 per person, but this will be the cheapest cruise we've ever taken and have an extra person to boot. Was really cool that our TA thought to check for this.

SO, if a vet, please check to see if the military option is available for anyone booking.

I am a vet and got the military discount on my last cruise which was on the Legend, Last week. All you have to do is fax a copy of your DD-214 to your cruise planner and shazam, you got it. You will have a terrific cruise on the Legend, the quality of food and the service were both great. One of the best cruises we have ever had.The ship is very guady, and when you first board it will hit you, but after a day or 2 you will not notice it as much. Have a great trip. Viet

we've been on the Pride & Costa Atlantica, same ship basically......very user friendly.......as for gawdy, no big deal........i am looking for a deck chair near the adult pool aft and gonna "park it" there for the first two days...

haven't been to Barbados or Martinique yet, so this should be good.....have a sunset catarmaran cruise in Barbados......that should be relaxing.......

i've already given my 214 to my TA, so next year's trip on the Triumph is all set.......wasn't aware that the discount was that deep......

also got insurance from Travelex for the three of us for $95.....(littleman gets his free)....everything is pre exisiting..

.....just need to "get out there" for this one first......

Yes it's crazy isn't it? We just booked ours a month ago. My husband is active duty and I had to fax them a copy of my military I.D. and my husband's orders (since he's deployed). They gave us $600 off. Gotta love the military discount!

if I were you I would contact one of the personal cruise planners at Carnival and ask for the discount. That is how I found out about it to begin with. my T A never told me about it. But seeing that they work on commision maybe that is why? My personal planner at Carnival is Diana Vasques, very helpful. just a thought . Viet

Just wanted to post a hardy thank you for the originator of this thread. Just booked yesterday for the Valor on Jan 7th, the wife and I's first cruise, well, first anything for that matter, for our 12 year anniversary. Got what I thought was a decent price, 1152 for a 8E balcony (think top row balcony). After seeing this thread, I called Carnival and they said it was true, call your TA and they will adjust your rate. Called them, and after a short wait as he called Carnival to confirm, ended up saving $465.00 or $910 a room. All I had to do was fax the TA my Military ID and Drivers Liscense and he will do the rest, getting it to Carnival. Thanks again for the savings you got me, as my excursions will be a bit more capable now.

No problemo

when you get to Cayman, send us a postcard from "Hell"......*LOL*

that is where we are taking our grandson when we get there.......we told him about this place, so now he's telling everyone that me & his Nana are taking him to Hell...it's an inside joke kinda/sorta, but his other grandparents are of the religious sort.......doubt if they will see the humour, but.......

enjoy your first trip out......take it all in........

Ajax,

I guess I dont understand, still new to the cruise thing. The Cayman/Hell reference. You mean this is a bad spot? or that is in reference to a local beach or something? Just curious, and yes, we intend to take it all in. Plenty of time for excursion research at this point. Kids are going to go crazy with all the talking the wife and I will do over the next many months.
