WOW, what an unfortunate thing to happen to those who no doubt spent a lot time and money planning a cruise to such a far away place. I agree with Bob that the compensation was reasonable, but the free cruise is not what most passengers wanted when they booked that cruise.
I have been reading reports that as long ago as early January, of this year there were reports of severe vibrations coming from the PODS on the Millennium. This one has all the classic earmarks of yet another propulsion (POD) failure for a Celebrity m-class ship. Given the long history of these problems with Celebrity, the cancellation of a cruise for "emergency" dry dock does not come as a surprise to those who do know the history of these on-going propulsion problems on Celebrity m-class ships. The sad part is that I would bet that most passengers booked on that cruise had never heard of POD problems. IMHO, these problems will only end the day Celebrity scraps or pawns off their m-class ships and could then return to their former status as a true premium cruise line. My heart goes out to those who were booked on that cruise.
It is a great thing that those who do take the time to research cruise lines and have come here, can at least be armed with the facts and then decide for themselves if the additional risk of encountering one of these problems is worth it to them.
Thanks for allowing me to express my opinions.
