HI WE JUST BOOKED A MEXICO CRUISE ON NCL STAR MINI-SUITE #11500. WE PICKED THIS LOCATION BECAUSE WE ARE ALLERGIC TO CIGARETTE SMOKE AND WANTED TO BE UP-WIND IF ANYONE WAS ON THERE PATIO SMOKING. WE DON'T GET SEASICK SO THE BOW IS NOT A PROBLEM. ANYONE HAVE ANY HELPFUL INFORMATION, OR PICTURE WOULD BE GREAT,
DOES WHERE THE CAPTAIN NAVIGATES STICK OUT SO FAR IT WILL BLOCK OUR VIEW? WE ARE THE FIRT PORT CABIN FROM THERE. IT IS HARD TO TELL BY THE PHOTO'S. ALOS IS THER A LOT OF SMOKING AT THE POOL? WHICH BARS AND LOUNGES ARE NON-SMOKING? WE HAVE GONE ON TWO OTHER CRUISE BUT THEY WERE NON-SMOKING WITH ANOTHER CRUISE LINE THE WENT BANKRUPT. ARE THERE THINGS TO DO WHEN THE SHIP IS IN PORT, (ON YOUR OWN )WITHOUT GOING TO FAR. LIKE CAN YOU WALK TO SHOPPING AREA'S. HOW MUCH IS A BAR SET UP AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN. HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME WITH THESE QUESTIONS.

I'll try to answer your questions, one at a time.
DOES WHERE THE CAPTAIN NAVIGATES STICK OUT SO FAR IT WILL BLOCK OUR VIEW?
Not if you don't look up. But, forward facing cabins have other problems you should be aware of. They're windy when the ship is underway, have steel doors to keep high seas out, and you must close the curtains at night to prevent blinding the bridge. You'll feel you will not have access to the balcony as much as you may like. But the views are great when you are out there on it.

ALSO, IS THERE A LOT OF SMOKING AT THE POOL? WHICH BARS AND LOUNGES ARE NON-SMOKING?
NCL only allows smoking outdoors, where food is not being prepared, nor near children pools. Usually one side is smoking, the other side is non smoking. NLC only allows smoking inside in cabins, in the casino, and in the cigar lounge. Everywhere else inside is non smoking.

ARE THERE THINGS TO DO WHEN THE SHIP IS IN PORT (ON YOUR OWN) WITHOUT GOING TO FAR, LIKE CAN YOU WALK TO SHOPPING AREA'S?
I'm not very familiar with the Star's Mexican itinerary. Usually, some ports will have shopping areas nearby, others will not. I suggest looking through a port of call forum to check out each port in your itinerary. Sorry I wasn't much help with this question.

HOW MUCH IS A BAR SET UP AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Here are some photos of the Star so you can see what your view will look like ...

You are on the same deck as the bridge. As you know, the bridge sticks out a little further than the side of the ship so that the captain has a clear view along the side of the ship when necessary.

I don't recall any smoking around the pool. I also am not a big drinker so I can't tell you which bars/lounges are non-smoking or help you with your bar set up question. However, I do have some photos of the pool area ...

The NCL Star is now doing a one week typical Mexican Riviera cruise (Cabo, Mazatlan, PV). Cabo is a tender port. Once you reach the dock there are stores all around the marina. Here are some pictures of Cabo ...

This is the Star at anchor in Cabo's bay ...

Overhead view of Cabo ...

Closer view of the tender dock (the tender dock is where the big green X is) ...

A view of Cabo Bay from the ship ...

The dock in Mazatlan is a commercial dock. You will take a shuttle to the area where the stores are ...

Here is a photo of the shuttle ...

There is a small shopping area near the dock in PV. Here are a couple of photos of the PV dock area ...

This is the Vision of the Seas docked in PV ...

PV's dock ...

Overview of PV's dock ...

Forward facing cabins have two doors between the cabin and the balcony. One will be what everyone expects, a glass door, the other one is made of steel, like bulkhead doors you would see on navy ships.

Here's a link to a photo that may explain it better.

http://www.freemanmarine.com/_GalleryImages/Doors_1430/1430 Transom Door partially open.jpg
The watertight bulkhead door is needed forward because in very heavy seas, the ocean waves could break the glass doors if there weren't steel doors for protection. Much like one would protect glass windows with shutters on beachfront homes in Florida.

In good weather, you can leave to steel doors open, In rough weather, the cabin steward will ask you, if not order you, to shut the steel doors.

The OP is not in a forward facing cabin. The OP is in a side facing cabin. The most forward side facing cabin on deck 11 on the port side.
