we're planning a cruise on the star princess in nov. i would like a balcony with as much privacy as possible, does anyone know which would offer us this?
For the regular cabins it would be the ones on Baja or Aloha, they are completely covered. If you go down to Caribe you get a balcony about twice the size, but half of it is open and the other half covered.
The problem with the Aloha ones that are very private is that they are directly below the pool deck which can be noisey. If you really want privacy, go with an aft cabin. The only time it isn't private is when another ship pulls up in port right behind your ship. (Make sure your curtains are closed the night before unless you want lookey-loos peering into your cabin.) :grin
You definately want to book a cabin on the Emeral deck aft. These mini suites cabins are the best. If you can try E728 or E729 these are the last cabins on the port and starboard side aft. They have a much bigger balcony and is completely private. Do not get a balcony on the Dolphin deck you have no privacy at all on that deck. There is no roof over the Dolphins deck balconies. Everyone above can look down on you.
A rainy day with no covering was more of a pain then the privacy issue. I swear I never saw more than 15-20 people at anytime sitting on their balconies. I was on dolphin deck and always looked and never saw anyone except at sailaways.
