Considering booking a cabin on deck 9 for the extra room. Please provide any info on the ship you can to help make our trip more enjoyable.
Heard there are no safes on this ship too.

I love the monarch..... when it was docked here in LA, me and my husband used to cruise it at least once every 3-4 months.... unfortunately, the took it away to the caribbean i think soooo ive been without a cruise since it left.

So anyway, i get sea sick so we've always booked a cabin on the lower, midship levels.... dont know much about being on deck 9.

The monarch is an older ship but its a pretty fun ship to be in for short cruises so im sure you will have a great time while your there.... one place i like to hang out thats a little bit away from the crowd to just chill and read a book or just sit and watch the seas is at the back of the ship. If you go by the sports court, take the stairs down ( i think about 2-3 flights ) and you will end up right in from of the gym, there should be a couple of lounge chairs there and its really fun coz not a lot of people know that its there. :D i normally take a bottle of beer or some drink and a book and hang out there for a couple of hours, then once i've had enough of it, just go back up and join all the craziness! lol

The food was great when the Monarch was in Los Angeles. I cruised on it 4 times. The cabins are small and they don't have a refrigerator in the cabin. I would use their metal waste basket as a frigerator. I would put lots of ice and put my cans of sodas in it and cover it with a towel. It worked pretty good.

The ship has a really good feeling about it. It felt like a summer home. The people were super friendly and I loved to play Trivia.
I wish it had stayed in L.A. I used to love the 4 day cruises.

Presently we have the new Carnival Splendor in Long Beach and I have already cruised on it 2 times.
We also have the RCL Mariner of the Seas and I will be cruising on it on Sept. 6th.
I booked on the Carnival Paradise for a 4 day cruise for Feb.2010. I want to try it out. Lucy

I don't know about Deck 9 but we were on Deck 6 over New Years...it is called the Tween Deck and was so handy. I loved this area and the ship in general was just great. I would go on the Monarch again in a flash!

Luci,

We just recently sailed on Carnival's Paradise and hated it. We have 26 cruises on Royal but thought we would give Carnival a try since we were looking for a short cruise out of L.A. The ship is old, glitzy and kind of garish. We were very disappointed in the layout too. Food was so so. Drinks were more expensive than Royal as well. Just one gal's opinion.
