Here's my quick review. We just got back from the 3 night cruise out of San Pedro. This was the family's 5th cruise (1 Disney, 3 Carnival).
We stayed at the Doubletree in San Pedro the night before. It was very nice and clean with heated pool and hot tub. Good choice.
Getting on board was the easiest yet. We arrived at the port about 12:15 and we on board within about 20 minutes. Plenty of parking. No lines anywhere. It was great!
Debarking was also the quickest we have experienced. From the time they called our color, it was 40 minutes to the parking lot. Very nice!
The staff was all very nice and helpful. I liked how they had the staff posted at the elevators to direct you and answer questions. Internet was cheaper than Carnival ($.50 vs $.75/minute). We thought the food was excellent as was the wait staff. Never any lines at the buffet either.
There were some minor things but nothing that even came close to preventing us from having a great time- like everyone has said, the room was very small. Why they would build a ship with such small rooms (even in 1991), I don't know. No biggie, we basically only slept there, just don't plan on entertaining anyone in your room. The TV was very small and old (about 12" screen) and because of the Pullman bad, the TV was located down low under the desk which also took away 3 drawers. The TV was barley visible from the bed because it was so low. The room needed some work. It was clean, but aged. There were nicks and scratches in the walls and there was rust on several spots in the bathroom. The paint was also bubbling in a few spots under the wallpaper. It was all very noticeable so I guess the RCCL people just decided not to fix it. Oh and the soda in the room was expired. Again, all relatively minor stuff. The price of the cruise ($240 pp) made up for the little things. We definitely got our money's worth and had a great time. I even came in 3rd place in the bellyflop contest. Ouch!!!!!
And Ensenada...well, nothing too great about that place. Kind of dirty, lots of street vendors. We walked around for a bit and saw everything there was to see in the downtown shops. My wife bought a fake Gucci purse. I would have liked to eat there but the little one wasn't too happy at that time.
We were a little concerned about people saying it was a party cruise since we have a 7 yr old, but it was just like every other cruise we've been on- no worse, no better. Some people were partiers, some not. There was a very big mix of people onbaord- infants to the elderly.
All in all it was well worth it. We will definitely be going back.
I have lots of pics if anyone wants to see something specific. Maybe this link to photobucket will work too.
