do some research on ports and plan your own excursions. those through the ship are very expensive. we went on our first cruise and planned our own excursions with the intent to get back to the ship one hour earlier than requested. don't know where you're going, but our ports had tour guides, taxis, etc. right there offering trips for much less. what ports are you going to?

When booking, as a rule, I don't go through the lines themselves.. always research online and check the TAs. Make sure you clear them through the BBB though. Don't wanna get burned by them either. Fares through TAs for me have always saves me 100-300 dollars per person.

Since you are going to Jamaica......this is one place I would make sure you stay with a group. A large group! The natives are pushy and get mad if you don't spend your money with them! I'm not a big wimp but I did not feel safe outside the resort when I wasn't with a BIG group.

Ummm...bringing your own alcohol is sorta risky. It's not allowed by RCCL, it says so on their website. But if you can get away with it, you would save money.

In Jamaica book a tour through Peat Taylor. He is amazing and gives a fabulous tour and is way better value for money that the ship excursions. His email address is oneiltay@cwjamaica.com You won;t be disappointed with his tour.

In Grand Cayman, if you are interested in swimming with stingrays and snorkeling, book directly with Captain Marvin. I have done this excursion twice and it was a real highlight of each of those trips. I don't remember their email address, but search it on google and you will find it. He offeres 2 and 3 hour tours, and they are amazing.

In Cozumel, take a cab to Chankanaab Park or Playa Sol (we prefer Chankanaab). If you like beach days these are great places to spend the day.

Have a great cruise. The western carib itinerary is my favourite.

Best deal on Carnival, and probably other lines as well, buy a drink card (unlimited soft drinks) for one price ($15-$20 depending on how many days is your cruise). If you have kids or teens, or drink alot of pop yourself, this is a big savings, as soft drinks and alcoholic drinks are not free. Or if you really want to save money, drink only the free lemonade, iced tea and fruit punch offered at the buffet!
