How about the slots in the casino? Any nickle slots? Did you happen to visit the disco? I promised my 19 year old we would do both-if we aren't too tired. (as we were in Jamaica last year!) Did you go to a formal dinner? If so, how was it? Did you get pictures done? prices? How were the pools? Do you have to pay to go to the one pool as posted previously? Ton of kids on board? Where was your room? how was it size wize? We are in cabin 4600, four of us. What did room include? I have packed soap, shampoo, etc. What excursions did you do? How did that go? I am SO thirsty for any info! LOL Thank you so much! I can't wait to go and then write my review but I don't want to wish away time as well. Thanks for the movie info. Of course we own Catch me if you Can and saw Nemo this summer! I'd love to see both again but am also relieved that if I don't get there I won't be missing anything. Yes, I am that much of a movie nerd. :)

Hi Jacquie/Mom -

. As Shiplookout said (phew, take a breath and put a period in there somewhere hon!), we had a good time on the Dawn and I just wanted to try to answer some of your questions in more detail...

We only went to the casino a couple times, to play the free spin coupon we had gotten, and played the quarter slots a bit (the Pink Panther-themed 5-chances to win seemed to be the best bet. I didn't notice nickel slots, if they were there... we didn't stay long because, unlike most other parts of the ship, the casino was very smokey and left my clothes smelling like cigarettes, lol.

We did not check out Dazzles Disco (I think that's what it was called), but in Spinnaker lounge, the first "disco" night was indeed a bit dead... they had some seventies nights later on in the week that I think were more popular, though we didn't go.

Formal night was optional, as were the photos- although everyone had to at least change out of jeans/shorts/sneakers before dinner in most dining rooms, there were many people on the cruise who donned fine attire and stopped in the lobby to have their pictures taken, on the optional formal night, or other nights as well.

I'm not a lap swimmer so I thought the pool was a decent size, especially when not too crowded. I also liked that the kiddy pool was on a separate deck, so we could enjoy a quiet dip when we returned from the private island. They switched the days- we were supposed to have the full day in Nassau, but with only a half a day we decided to stay out of the sun... one of the resort/boat tours would have been fun I'm sure if there had been more time.

The shore excursion to Kennedy Space Center was interesting but a little to much like "school" for me- if I had it to do over again I wouldn't have bought the full tour ticket, I would have gone by rental car or taxi and bought tickets just for the IMAX movies, which I think is an option, but not sure...

They seemed to repeat the movie that was shown in the theater on the small room tvs the next day, so if you have to choose between a movie and a show, go to the shows, we were seldom sorry...

I'll have to see whether 4600 is the same class room as ours, we had the smallest, I think- if it is, you'll have two sets of bunk beds I guess for four people, one on either side of the porthole window, and as for closet space as long as no one is a heavy packer it should be OK... I hope you have more closets than we did, although we overpacked and didn't need nearly all the clothes we brought... the cruise was very comfortable, and it never rained, which made it easier of course...

Finally, you asked about what was in the room. In the shower there is a refillable dispenser for shampoo and shower gel. No conditioner that I could see. By the sink was a refillable hand soap dispenser, and we were left a little dish with body lotion, a shower cap, and shoeshine kit, which they seemed to replenish if anything was taken. And the best part for me was the hair dryer was attached by the mirror of the dressing table/desk in the room, and there was also a full length mirror (finally someone has understood the value to women of having a full lenght mirror, lol!)...

I think that's everything you asked- feel free to ask more here or e-mail me at loved_m@yahoo.com, and have fun on Oct. 5-

Love

There were nickel slots in the Dawn Casino last June
I think that the Casino may be for over 21 though, not sure
Did not go to the disco so I can't help you there
Food was great...my teens liked the Blue Lagoon for fish and chips any time
and DH and I loved Lebistro for a special meal, and found it well worth the surcharge
of 12.50 pp.
We did not do photo' for formal night, because it is not our thing, however lots of
people did and we saw plently of families having portraits taken.
After all, how often does the whole family get together for a dress up occassion?
It was nice to see people having a good time
Not to be missed is the Chocolate Buffet. Bring your Camera
Shows were great and the Stardust Theator is cool
The movie theater shows a different movie every day and runs a teen movie as well
Our family loved the private Island and went out on the first tender of the day
If you like the beach you won't be dissappointed. Bring sunblock and bottled water if
you plan to stay in the sun at all.
We did not go to Disney because our sailing was delayed cutting short the day in Port Canaveral , The ship was uncrowded on that day and we enjoyed time by the pool
My only critisism of the ship is that the gift shop selection was poor and the prices too high. It wasn't fun to browse..too la de daa for our taste..
The gif t shop on the Majest y is way cooler and has more stuff that you might actually want to buy.
But I digress...You will love this ship and so will your family

Jacquie, as Lonnie mentioned join the cruise critic group. We did it on a previous Dawn cruise and had a ball. Also, vist the ncl.com website for a tour of the Dawn. You'll find that the Dawn has the largest indoor lap pool complete with cushioned lounges. It used to have a $10 cover charge to keep the under 18 year old crowd away, but the cruise critic crowd objected and the fee was permanently removed. The lap pool is below the fitness center and behind the spa (most passenegers never find it... it's a great area). For some great info. including copies of menus try http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/pmassey/dawn/ndawnphoto.htm
