More Questions From 1st time Zuiderdam Cruiser

Now that our cruise is less than one month away (how time flies), I have some more questions about the Zuiderdam. There are quite a few questions on all sorts of topics, and I would appreciate any answers I can get or directions to where I can find the answers. Everyone was very helpful before and I hope to be able to do the same after our cruise is over.

I know that I will be eating more than I normally do, which means I will try to excercise a bit during the cruise. Does anyone know the hours of the gym? Is there an area to jog around the ship? If not I will use the gym, but the hours may be different than I normally like to exercise (late evening or early morning).

For S suite pre-dinner hot hors d'oeuvres, I have been told that the hors d'oeuvres are very good but the portions are small. Can we order multiple portions? I would like more than a small portion. :)

We would like to eat dinner on the verandah one evening, if we choose to order dinner from the dining room menu in room, can we order more than 1 portion like in the dining room?

What night would anyone recommend going to the Oddysey? We are open to any night except the last formal, lobster & beef wellington are 2 of our favorite foods.

For Half Moon Cay, I have heard there are some sort of huts or large umbrellas that provides shade, but first come first served to get one. How early do you have to be to get one? Must you be on the first tender and go directly to them? If so, where are they located?

Are clean white sneakers OK for casual night dinners?

I know that's a lot of questions, and I would appreciate any and all answers. Thanks in advance.

** Zuiderdam has a teak promenade deck that wraps all the way around the ship. This is for walking/speed walking more than jogging as there are some cabins on this deck and noise would bother those occupants.

** There is a smaller jogging track on Sports Deck....go up there any time of the day or night.

** I think the gym hours are something like 6 A.M. - 9 P.M.

** You can order as many servings as hors d'ouerves as you desire. Simply tell the concierge the number of servings you want.

** You can order as many dinner servings for your veranda as you desire. When you order, tell them the quantity you want.

Clean white sneakers.....if you wish. Few gents wear sneakers in the evening on HAL ships, but, on casual night, I suppose if that is what you want. You are apt to see most men in slip on loafer type shoes or even perhaps deck shoes.

Have a great cruise.

Forgot to address your question re: umbrellas/shade at HMC.

As an "S" suite pax, you will get a priority boarding pass for the tender to HMC. That means that as soon as they announce tender service is beginning, you may go directly to the gangway with your tender pass and will be permitted to board the next tender. This allows you to avoid going to the lounge, picking up a number and waiting for your number to be called.

Therefore, if you get to the gangway when they announce tender service has begun, you get to the beach among the first folks and you should be able to get an umbrella or a place to put your chairs in a shady area. There are some shady areas on the beach.

Hope this helps.....

I would like to continue the question about shoes on casual, or non formal night. Would a nice pair of Birkenstocks, with socks on, be okay, these are very company and not a cheap sandal,,,,just asking.

Jimlinalf,
I'm new to HAL too. Birks for the dinning room on any nite
probably would make you feel uncomfortable (wife too)
after seeing what the other passengers are wearing.
Birks around the ship or in port would be great.

Jimlinalf,

In all my time I have never noticed whether on casual night women were wearing Birks or not. I bet Sail or another woman could tell you though.

I haven't seen any women wearing berkies on Informal or Casual nights.....doesn't mean they didn't, just means I never noticed it (and I probably would have noticed :) )
