Okay, guys. I have been on a few cruises in the past, and I thought I ended up tipping the waiter and assistant water individually. Now all the waiters are lumped together along with alternative dining service. Am I just remembering the wrong thing? Should I just give the entire wait staff amount to the waiter on the last night ( I prefer not to prepay tips.)? Also, what is the suggested amount for tipping Camp Carnival personnel? We have one ten year old daughter. Thanks for the help. lisa

If you are tipping on your own you would still give the each person you tip an envelope with their tip. Not sure what to tip Camp Carnival I have never had the need to use them.

So, you would give the waiter one envelope and the assistant waiter another? How do you divide up the total (%)?

Carnival "suggest" to following amounts for each person, including the 10 year old.
$3.50 per day per person...Room Steward
$3.50 per person per day ...Waiter
$2.00 per person per day...@sst. Waiter

Maitre D' and Head waiter is at your desecration. I think this has a lot to do with the amount of attention or work each shows during the week. Many cruisers chose NOT to tip either if all they do is show up the last night and say hello.

On our last cruise I tipped the Maitre D' zero.. I never saw him/her, but tipped the Head waiter more than the waiter. Kelly never charged us a corkage fee, but brought glasses and champagne bucket when necessary, was there EVERY evening helping with the table, joking, and even giving some of us old codgers kisses !! She prepared cherries jubilee, and served our table. So it really all depends on the service offered

As far as the Camp Carnival personnel, I thin a lot depends on how much it is used. I have read where many people tip around $ 25.00 per child for the week.

Thanks a bunch! They didn't have the amount for each waiter, just the total. lisa

the tips don't include the maitre d'.
we learned that he was responsible for matching families at dining room tables and spends a great deal of time on this, in addition to his other duties. we were matched with a wonderful family with same age children and they became buddies for the entire trip. we gave him a nice tip in an envelope provided to us in our room on the last night by carnival.
we also increased the tip for the room steward...he put up with the luggage and belongings of three teenage girls and parents. (and on the few occasions when we paged him, he was at our door in 60 seconds or less.)
i don't know what is customary for camp carnival staff, but they are additional also.
have fun!

Speaking of tipping, what is the average tip for the room service person when delivering breakfast or snack?

With room service I usually hav 1-4 dollars in my hand when they arrive, 4 if they arrive prompt with all my food, 3 if they are there in a decent amount of time with all my food, and 2 if they are late, 1 if they messed up the order and I have to wait longer.

That said, I usuallly end up shelling out at least the 3 dollar one ;)
