Hi,

Okay we are starting to get excited about our first cruise...we leave on March 2nd and believe it or not I have started to pack!!=docdance

We are going on the Adventure of the Sea, I know it is a big ship. I am nervous about the "motion sickness" I went to purchase the wrist bands and my hubby and both daughters said they will not wear them, because they look like sweat bands and they will get a funny tan! I talked to the pharmacist and she said the "patches" are not good for anyone who wears contacts.(we all do...)
I have packed gravol but will that be enough?
Am I being paranoid- the ship is so big will we feel anything?
Your thoughts would be great ;)

Well, if your cabin is at the front of the ship, you are more likely to feel motion - that is, when you are actually in your cabin which you shouldn't be most of the time if you're having fun.

We bought the motion sickness bands and also bonine I think it was.

We used it the first day just to make sure. After that we didn't. Occasionally you will feel movement. We were on the Adventure during Christmas time, and we were fine.

I used ginger and I was fine. I like ginger because it is not a drug and because it is the only thing that worked on Mythbusters. I took one tablet in the morning, with water, before breakfast and one tablet in the evening, with water, before dinner. You can get a bottle of 100 ginger tablets at any drug store (Walgreens, Rite Aid ...) for about $6.

I have been on the Adventure before (in fact I am going again next week). I did not have any sensation of the sea, to speak of. I just took half a sea sickness pill with breakfast and never worried about it the rest of the day. And I get motion sickness!

I was really scared about motion sickness before our first cruise, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was a little queasy before breakfast the first morning, but as soon as I ate, I was fine, and never had a problem again! We were on the Navigator, and our room was right at the front of the ship, which I guess is the worst place to be, seasickness wise anyway! Does anyone know if they sell motion sick meds on the ship??

A full stomach feels a lot less motion and there is no reason to have an empty stomach on a ship. We have been on when it was rough enough the horizon went from the bottom to the top of a full length balcony door with each wave. We use Bonine as needed. My husband and daughter have never taken anything and they both are fine. My other daughter and I are more prone to motion sickness and use Bonine only if we feel rotten. Got extremely sick once and went to ship's doctor who gave me an injection that had me good for the rest of the week. I had patches then that this outspoken swedish doctor threw away. He had very distainful attitude toward "Americans and their worthless patches". On subsesquent cruises we did not bother with the patches--why have medication in your system on a day that you don't need. You can take a pill only when you need it. I get more motion sick than anyone I know and would never miss a cruise opportunity out of fear of it. We have managed very nicely with Bonine in the past, and will again in the future! 8 cruises and counting.

My husband and I have never had to take anything. Last cruise aboard the Freedom we took our daughter and son in-law. She did get a little queezy. Not on deck but when in the theatre you can feel just a little bit of a shimmy. It threw her equilibrium off. She took bonine and was fine, never had a problem the entire time.

I get Bonine at Walmart OTC. It is about $4 for a package. It was recommended to me by a flight attendent as being better than Dramamine "less Drowsy". It is also chewable so you start getting relief almost immediately.

I think it depends on what your feeling depending on what to take??? I have to take Bonine! I get a funny feeling in my head...lol...it's like I am rocking..but just in my head...it doesn't matter if it is calm or not??
But one Bonine in the AM and one right before dinner and I am fine!! I have tried to go without it, forget it!!
Some say go up on deck and look at the horizon, this does work but..:thumb the minute I walk away its back!! I have tried the wrist bands (they don't look that bad) they did nothing for me. Hope this all helps!!

I use Bonine. I have more of a problem with the flight to the departure city. I usually start taking Bonine the day before we are scheduled to fly and then the 1st and maybe the 2nd day of the cruise and then after that no more pills. This really seems to work for me. Bonine is the only thing that I will take because it lasts for 24 hrs. for me and is very convenient to take.

Have a wonderful and safe cruise.

This is very helpful for me too. I bought some last night just in case. If I need it I'll take it. Thanks everyone for the information.
