MSC Fantasia and MSC Serenata are two of the largest ships ever built for a European shipowner. MSC Fantasia and MSC Serenata will be delivered to the MSC Cruises fleet in the autumn of 2008 and spring of 2009.

On 11 April at the Aker Yards in Saint-Nazaire, France, two exceptional events will take place for these two post-Panamax mega ships: a coin ceremony for MSC Fantasia and cutting the first steel for MSC Serenata. MSC Cruises CEO, Pierfrancesco Vago and the Director General for Aker Yards, Jacques Hardelay, will attend these two events.

MSC Fantasia's coin ceremony: following maritime tradition, two gold coins - one from the shipowner and the other from the shipyard - will be welded to the keel.MSC Cruises is owned by the Aponte family and Mrs. Rafaela Aponte is known in her home city of Geneva as an accomplished pianist. At the ceremony, a coin that she won as a first prize for her piano playing from the Conservatory in Geneva will be welded to the MSC Fantasia keel. Music and tradition are the cornerstone of MSC‘s strong company values.

Pierfrancesco Vago, CEO for MSC Cruises said: "I am delighted to be here for this major ceremony, which sees the start of our company's new range of post-Panamax ships. MSC Fantasia represents an innovative product for the European cruise industry with the birth of a new concept - ‘La Dolce Vita'. These two ships will be offering a unique experience, including a three-dimensional cinema, the 1,500 square metre spa, plus an interactive sports bar and the TexMex restaurant, which will be open 24 hours, seven days a week. MSC Fantasia is the result of the exceptional efforts of our technical department and Aker Yards to ensure a ship as unique as the MSC Cruises product. MSC Fantasia will be stationed in the Mediterranean and will respond to the needs of our present and future guests."

Domenico Pellegrino, Managing Director of MSC Crociere, added: "With the construction of MSC Fantasia and MSC Serenata, the company is setting new standards for quality. This combination of new technology and innovative design, added to great maritime traditions and the culture of European hospitality, enables us to offer an inimitable product, eminently suited to the discerning cruise traveller".

The ships in the MSC Cruises fleet are well known for their hospitality, elegant design and impeccable service. The launch of the two largest ships in the fleet - MSC Fantasia and MSC Serenata - reaffirms the company's wish to offer something truly special.
